We made measurement of interaction with the natural ventilation effect and the surrounding environment. Cool air flows from near ravine every night. Although the air flows so softly, the cool air is successfully introduced into rooms by means of gravity-ventilation. The gravity-ventilation with skylight windows provides uniform and comfortable indoor environment, and in virtue of this, it is possible to remove thermal load even when outdoor temperature rises to 30℃.

Recently, the heat environment of summer in urban area has deteriorated remarkably by the heat island phenomenon and global warming. This study aims to create the useful database in the block planning which is conserved for these two thermal environmental problems. Therefore, we evaluated the impact of building shapes and arrangements of surrounding buildings on outdoor heat environment and air-conditioning energy consumption by CFD simulation and thermal load calculation.

One of the cause of rising temperature in urban cities is the weak connection of water and heat. To evaluate the present condition, we drew flow charts about energy-water combined metabolism. From the flow charts, we detected the problems and room of improvement especially in commercial sector. Next, we classified grid cells in Osaka into 9 classes by cluster analysis whose indicator was about radiated heat. From the result of classification, we showed the capability of evaluating where to introduce countermeasures and what to introduce countermeasures.

In this study, we propose a new urban planning considering both of heat island mitigation and CO2 reduction. We estimated the potential effect of the heat island mitigation strategies at block level by using numerical model. We also evaluated the amount of CO2 reduction in each scenario. And we also organized a workshop in which we discussed about scenarios with inhabitants, and after that we made a new scenario in mind inhabitants' opinions.

The purpose of this study is to propose the new scenario of urban planning considering both of heat island mitigation and energy conservation at the target for the real blocks. In order to develop measures that effectively mitigate urban heat island phenomenon, a simulation model capable of predicting urban thermal climate precisely must be developed. This paper analyzes sensitivity of estimated air temperature in a meso-scale climate model to how anthropogenic heat is released. The result showed that the total amount of heat release from the residential, transportation and industrial sectors, the pattern of heat release from the residential and industrial sectors, the height of the industrial sector have a significant influence on air temperature during night and early morning while atmosphere is stable.

We clarify the distinction about energy consumption and occupant thermal environment control behavior on the realistic city block before we examine the impact of the change of city block, outdoor facility, building construction, and lifestyle upon residential energy consumption for air-conditioning and lighting by a numerical simulation model. As a result, it is showed that heating energy consumption accounts much percentage of energy consumption for air-conditioning and lighting, so the countermeasure for heating season is important. Moreover, it is indicated that we have to control the solar insolation and amount of ventilation due to appropriate time and season.
