The purpose of this paper is to trace a process of housing supply of the residential complex that planned by the housing co-op and to point out that the form of the dwelling units and the ownership played an important role in defining the direction in which the housing estate was transforming. Kobushi-danchi, the object of this study, was composed of 490 semi-detached houses (980 households), which were built in the suburbs of Tokyo in 1966. It is assumed that the residents took part in the housing supply, because Kobushi-danchi was planned by the housing co-op and improved by the resident organization after the development. Therefore this paper, based on the research using documents, focuses on the planning, the ownership and the residents' activities to analyze the change in this project.

This paper, based on questionnaire and interview survey, clarifies how super high-rise condominiums in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area dealt with the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11 March 2011. Most super high-rise condominiums suffered elevator failures, and the residents crowded on the first floor soon after the earthquake. During the elevator downtime, some common facilities such as meeting rooms, lobbies and party rooms worked as places for temporary and overnight refuges. Such uses were necessarily not preliminarily expected.

In this study, we analyzed the history of the housing co-ops, which played a role in housing during rapid economic growth in postwar Japan. In addition, we attempted to understand the actual conditions of the living environment in three specific areas developed by housing co-ops and to organize the frames that directed the formation of the residential environment through material and field surveys. As a result, it was found that 1) the government has incorporated the establishment of housing co-ops into its owner-occupied housing policy, 2) the housing complexes developed by the housing co-ops took the same form as general residential subdivisions, 3) the residents took on the responsibility of managing the complexes and formed the residential environment. Finally, we pointed out that the commons of the housing complex were created in the process, which developed into the use of space to meet the needs of people outside the community.

This study analyzed the urban formation of 25 industrial cities located in the coastal area of the Seto Inland Sea. As a result, cities are categorized based on industrial characteristics, geographical conditions, and location of factories, and the characteristics of each category are analyzed.
The research team conducted field and historical document surveys to understand the housing supply during the urbanization period of the typical cases in each category. Consequently, it was found that the ideal form of the industrial city differs depending on the development period of the city and industrial attributes. In terms of housing, it was found that the housing supplier has changed significantly in each period, by private sectors before WWII; by the Housing Corporation during the war; by local governments (public housing construction) after the war. The design of residential units and neighborhoods have changed accordingly.

During the Great Depression in the 1920's, the US Government developed three social housing projects called as "Greenbelt Towns". They were named as "Greenbelt" (Maryland), "Greenhills" (Ohio) and "Greendale" (Wisconsin). After the World War II, the Government disposed of the towns, and the houses were converted to private properties. This study, based on on-site surveys, clarified what social changes these Greenbelt Towns had experienced after the sale of towns, and what spatial transformations had occurred through such changes.
