This paper deals with a feasible power loss analysis simulator which can actually estimate the power losses of switching mode power converters using IGBTs. The power loss analysis simulator proposed newly is based upon the feasible measured switching power loss data tables and v-i characteristics data tables of power semiconductor power devices; IGBT and diodes. The effectiveness of practical simulation technique, which can discuss power loss evaluations for three phase PWM inverter, is confirmed from the viewpoints of the newly proposed simulation and experimental results.

This paper proposes a new topology of the voltage source bridge inverter circuit, which has the novel active edge resonant snubber circuit using the auxiliary switches. This inverter is acceptable for an uninterruptible power supply, PFC power converter, utility-interactive bi-directional power converter and so on. In this paper, the soft switching operation principle and design procedure of the active auxiliary edge resonant snubber circuit for high power applications are described and discussed. Both the main active switches and the auxiliary switches achieve ZVS or ZCS in this sinewave PWM inverter. This soft switching PWM inverter can minimize the switching surge related electromagnetic noise and the switching power loss of power semiconductor devices used here. This inverter does not need the sensor interfaced circuit to detect the voltage or the current and does not also required for the electrolytic chemical capacitors to make the neutral point of the DC power supply voltage. Because of the power semiconductor switches have the relation of the trade-off evaluation in the switching fall time characteristic and the conductive saturation voltage characteristic, this soft switching inverter can improve efficiency under conditions of the low saturation voltage.

This paper presents a novel type of phase shift ZVS-PWM controlled high frequency load resonant inverter with a single active resonant snubber for electromagnetic induction fluid heating appliances. The steady state operating performances of this inverter is evaluated and discussed on basis of simulation and experimental results for induction heater of compact moving fluid heating appliance in the pipeline.

This paper presents a new prototype configuration of a single-phase voltage source soft switching inverter using IGBT power module packages in order to reduce switching power losses, electromagnetic noises. A single inductor-assisted resonant AC link snubber circuit as one of the resonant snubbers to achieve the zero voltage soft switching for the single-phase voltage source inverter is originally demonstrated, and its operation principle and unique features as well as the practical parameter design method of resonant AC link snubber circuit treated here is described on the basis of computer-aided simulation analysis. Furthermore, the practical operating performans of the single inductor-type resonant AC link snubber for the single-phase voltage source soft switching inverter using IGBTs are discussed and evaluated on the basis of switching power losses and electromagnetic conductive noise as compared with those of single-phase voltage source hard switching inverter from an experimental point of view.

In this paper, a novel type of active auxiliary quasi resonant commutation leg link Snubber for three phase soft switching inverter circuit, which can be completely turned on and turned off with ZVS & ZCS hybrid mode transition is presented and discussed. The operating principle of this auxiliary hybrid resonant commutation leg link (AHRCLL) snubber circuit is described, and its optimum circuit parameters are determined from a simulation point of view. In addition to these, the performances of this resonant snubber-assisted three phase voltage source type soft switching inverter are evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation analysis.
