    <p>Rumors questioning the safety of food products promote anxiety among people, leading to mass boycott, and hence serious economic damage. This study explored this function of rumors amongst friends. A total of 312 female participants were randomly assigned to one of the following three conditions, and were asked to respond to a scale for evaluating rumor function (Takenaka, 2013). The conditions consisted of a fictitious scenario depicting radioactive tainted milk, and how the rumor was transmitted: 1) the news; 2) anonymous Twitter post by a stranger; or 3) through conversation with a close friend. Participants reported that greater information gathering and information provision functions were present in the news condition compared to the Twitter; and 2) that participants expected the rumor fosters conversation with friends more in the news condition than in the close friend. These results suggested that people tend to use information from news media in conversation with friends, because such information was perceived to be more reliable than other resources.</p>

    Many educational activities and disaster drills are conducted for the purpose of developing disaster prevention consciousness. It is necessary to develop a standardized psychological scale to measure disaster prevention consciousness
    this would help evaluate the effect of activities that improve disaster prevention consciousness. To do this, a qualitative study using a Constructivist Grounded Theory Approach was conducted. First, elements of disaster prevention consciousness were explored through one-hour interviews with a total of ten disaster prevention professionals. They responded to six questions on the characteristics and behaviors of a person who seemed to possess high disaster prevention consciousness. The study yielded six elements in knowledge (ex. “Reality of disaster”), eight elements in behavior (ex. “Preparation for dis-aster”), and ten psychological elements (ex. “Over-reliance on one measure against disasters,” “Predic-tion and analysis of situations,” and “Taking a comprehensive view”). A new anti-disaster consciousness model was developed based on these elements.

    The aim of this study was to examine group-level group identity (GGI), which is defined as group identity within a whole group and which may be an essential element for a collection of people to be a group. Multilevel structural equation modeling (ML-SEM) was used to test the prediction that GGI would have a positive effect on interaction, emotional bond, and interdependence among group members in the group-level model. If so, GGI could be considered as an essential element for a collection of people to be a group. University students (137 men, 104 women) completed a questionnaire (Study 1) and took part in an experiment in which 32 experimental groups (37 men, 55 women) were formed (Study 2). The results supported the prediction in both studies: GGI had positive influences on interactions, emotional bonds, and interdependence among group members.

    The recent trend in group identity studies is to approach the matter from a multilevel perspective, ever since the Interactive Model of Social Identity Formation (Postmes et al., 2006) was proposed. However, there has been little consensus on the operational definition of group level group identity, hence group identity is yet to be adequately addressed at the group level. The aims of this study were: (1) to compare two operational definitions, one by Swaab et al. (2008), and the other by Ozeki and Yoshida (2009); (2) to identify the difference in two subscales of group identity, "Membership" and "Pride", at both the individual and group levels. A total of 358 university students (161 Male, 190 female, 7 unidentified) evaluated their group identity toward the department of their major, and its group entitativity and ingroup value. At the group level, Membership lead to shared group identity mediating group entitativity. At the individual level, those high on Membership perceived their ingroup were cohesive, with its members sharing group identity. At the individual level, perceived ingroup value predicted Pride, leading to membership. We developed a new group formation process model through group identity development from a multilevel viewpoint, integrating the result of this study and the Interactive Model of Social Identity Formation.<br>

    This study aims at revealing the effect of change orientation and organizational climate on innovation-oriented behavior. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 8 companies, and responses of 168 employees were the target of analysis. Result showed following: 1) Under compelling and mandatory climate, employees with high change orientation took more innovation-oriented behavior than those with less change orientation 2) Innovation-oriented behavior was not affected by organizational climate where employees were participative and organizations were well managed. Considering results of this study and past several studies, change orientation and innovative organizational climate appear to be necessary to enhance employee's behaviors contributing to development of the organization.

    先行研究では、地域社会における近隣住民の集合的有能感や&lt;U&gt;暴力事象&lt;/U&gt;の経験が子どもの社会化に影響を及ぼす可能性が示唆されている。しかし、近隣の社会環境が自己制御の発達に及ぼす影響を検討した研究はわずかである。したがって本研究では、集合的有能感と暴力事象の経験が社会的自己制御に及ぼす影響を検討した。その結果、集合的有能感が直接的に社会的自己制御を高める影響過程と、暴力事象の経験を低下させることで間接的に自己制御を高める影響過程が認められた。また、集合的有能感による直接効果は、居住期間が長いほど高くなることが示された。

    In this study, group identity was distinguished into individual and group levels, based on Interactive model of social identity formation. Group identity was composed of two dimensions; membership and pride. This study examined how membership, pride, and coherence within the group affect the perception of inconsiderate behavior. Results of a Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) were as follows: 1) in groups with high intragroup means on membership, members proud of their group perceived more group inconsiderateness, particularly when such behavior appeared to be counter to the group's norms; 2) in groups with high intragroup means on membership, pride did not affect perception of interpersonal inconsiderateness; 3) in groups with low intragroup means on membership, those proud about their membership perceived more interpersonal inconsiderateness.<br>

    The authors examined the effects of neighborhood collective efficacy and violence on adolescents' antisocial behavior tendencies by means of the dual mediation of socialization indices (i.e., social information-processing and self regulation) and routine activities. Collective efficacy and violence exposure were assessed by neighborhood &ldquo;informal social control&rdquo; and &ldquo;social cohesion and trust&rdquo; during the elementary and junior high school years, and the frequency of violence in the community during junior high and high school years. Normative beliefs about aggression, cognitive distortions, social rule appropriateness and self regulation were used to assess both the positive and negative indices of socialization. Routine activities were assessed by the experience in unstructured socializing activities. Antisocial tendencies were assessed by evaluations of the seriousness and past experience of delinquent behaviors. The results of structural equation modeling revealed that the effect of collective efficacy on antisocial tendencies was perfectly mediated by the socialization indices, whereas experienced violence was partly mediated by routine activities. Possible improvements of this dual mediation model were discussed.

    The purpose of this study was to inquire about organizational climate effects on the occurrence of thoughtless behaviors, and the effect of group identity on the perception of thoughtlessness within varsity clubs. Organizational climate was measured through two subscales, Management scale (M) and Frankness scale (F). The M scale assessed perceived functional maintenance of a group, while the F scale assessed perceived freedom to express one's thoughts or attitudes within a group. Organizational climate perceived by each participant was grouped into three categories according to the subscale scores. Perceived functional maintenance negatively affected perceptions of thoughtless behaviors within a group, and frankness negatively affected perceptions of interpersonal thoughtless behaviors. Thoughtless behaviors in group were perceived more in clubs with high M than in clubs with low M and high F, and members with high group identity perceived more thoughtless behaviors in group. Organizational climate and group identity did not affect perception of interpersonal thoughtless behaviors.<br>

    Recently newly developed analyses have been used to analyze data nested within groups. In this study, organizational climate was measured by two subscales, Management (M) scale and Frankness (F) scale. The M scale dealt with how well members manage their clubs, while the F scale assessed how members can liberally express their opinions or attitudes. Multivariate regression analysis and MCA (Multilevel covariance structure analysis) were used to discuss relationships between organizational climate and occurrence of thoughtless behaviors (Organizational thoughtless and Interpersonal thoughtless), and were compared with these results. Result of MCA showed that the relationships between organizational climate and occurrence of thoughtless behaviors was different from those between person level and group level.
