本研究は、国際バカロレア（ＩＢ）で求められる学力や教授法を我が国の教科教育研究の成果をふまえて検討し、教科教育との共通点や親和性を見出したうえで、日本の学校改革の手法としてＩＢを導入する原理と方法を提案することを目的としている。
そのうえで、次の三点を到達目標として達成したい。第一は、ＩＢのＭＹＰ（ミドル・イヤーズ・プログラム）とＤＰ（ディプロマ・プログラム）の各科目の教育の特質を日本の教科教育との比較において明らかにしていくことである。第二は、ＩＢの原理を取り入れた日本の教科においても実践可能な教育プログラムを開発することである。そして、第三は、高等学校と連携し、開発した教育プログラムを実践し、その効果を検証し改善していくことである。以上の取組をふまえ、我が国の中等教育のカリキュラムや学校経営システム、教員の養成・研修体制をＩＢの理念を活かして改善するための具体的な方法の提案につなげたいと考えている。
ここまでの研究においては、上記の目標に向けて次の三つの事業を行ってきた。第一は、我が国の教科教育研究と国際バカロレアの学習を比較するための資料の収集である。主に、歴史、経済、生物、知の論理について教科書を中心に収集をし、当初の目的に近い数を集めることができた。第二は、国際バカロレア入試によって大学に進学した学生に対するインタビュー調査である。ここまで、３名のインタビュー調査を行い、国際バカロレアで学んだ学生は、日本の教科で学んだ学生とは異なり、どのような学習観を形成しているかを明らかにしようとした。第三は、日本の高等学校における探究学習と、国際バカロレアの学習との比較である。日本の高等学校の総合的な探究の時間と国際バカロレアの指導の在り方の検討から上記の課題に応えようとした。今後は、教科書の分析を中心に、可能な範囲で授業の見学や検討を行い、当初の目的を達成したい。
