本研究は，日中の国際理解教育の歴史的展開と動向を明らかにした上で，現行の国際理解教育に関する政策を比較・分析することによって，日中の国際理解教育が国の社会的状況からいかなる影響を受け，現在どのように展開しているかを明らかにしようとするものである。その際，日本の場合には，現行の学習指導要領の「総合的な学習・探究の時間編」を手がかりとし，中国の場合には，現行の2017年版の「中小学総合実践活动指導綱要」を手がかりとする。分析の結果，以下のことが明らかになった。１）歴史から見れば，両国における国際理解教育の発展は自国の国情に応じた理念を模索する時期を含み，その後，グローバル化が進展する現在，グローバル社会が直面している諸問題と自国の状況をふまえて，独自の国際理解教育を行うことが要求されていること。２）日本における『総合的な学習・探究の時間』に比べると中国における『総合実践活動』は，国民意識育成に重点をおき国際理解教育が行われていること。
