本研究では以下のような原稿を執筆した。論文のテーマは、異なる国からの商品間の代替の弾力性の測定することであり、回帰推定における潜在的な内生性の問題を解決するために、操作変数法(IV)アプローチと、フィーンストラ法を使用した。
本研究で用いた具体的な商品の例は、日本が輸入した牛肉、豚肉、家禽肉である。2015年の産業連関表によると、日本は世界最大の食肉輸入国であり、これらの商品は、TPP、RCEP、および多数の二国間FTAなどの貿易交渉の対象となる。貿易自由化体制の福祉への影響を研究するためには、一般均衡モデルが標準的な分析ツールとして使われており、本モデルの輸入需要モジュールは通常、アーミントン弾力性によって構成される。本研究では日本のアーミントン弾力性を、前述の2種のアプローチを用いて計測した。
分析の結果、2種のアプローチによって非常によく似た結果が得られることが分かった。結果の類似性により、フィーンストラ法の推定内で効果的に機能していた暗黙型の操作変数と、十分に関連性があると判明した外部操作変数との潜在的な互換性を調べた。データからフィーンストラ法の暗黙型の操作変数を抽出するために、本研究ではフィーンストラ法の推定から得られる逆(供給)関数の傾きのパラメータを利用した。第 1 段階の固定効果回帰に 操作変数を適用する利点は、第 1 段階の集計が第 2 段階の回帰の説明変数に入力されるだけでなく、計測するためにも利用されることである。
フィーンストラ法の暗黙型の操作変数を抽出すると、固定効果回帰で外国商品の集合体を測定し、おそらく商品ごとに外国と国内の置換弾性を推定するために、外部操作変数と同じくらい有用であることが分かった。これらの弾力性は、関税撤廃の効果を検討するために利用できると期待される。 -
