    Abstract

    Forest soil organic carbon plays a vital role in the terrestrial carbon cycle. Accurately analyzing the spatial distribution of soil organic carbon density (SOCD) is therefore necessary for sustainable forest management and climate change mitigation. Previous studies explored the potential of random forest (RF) in modeling forest SOCD using various environmental data sources. However, how forest SOCD prediction would be affected by using random forest regression kriging (RFRK), which integrates the predictive power of RF in generating deterministic trends and the capability of the ordinary kriging (OK) in handling spatial autocorrelation structure of residuals, based on the environmental data sources and their combinations remains elusive and deserves further exploration. For this purpose, 104 soil samples were collected at a depth of 30 cm in forest ecosystems of Central Vietnam, and 33 environmental covariates were derived from Sentinel-2 (S2) imagery, Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar-2 (AL2) imagery, digital elevation model (DEM), and climatic data. Using a leave-one-out cross-validation procedure to evaluate and compare the model performances, four metrics, including coefficient of determination (R2), mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and relative improvement (RI), were calculated. The results showed that enhanced RFRK performance for forest SOCD estimation was found with the inclusion of additional environmental data sources, with RFRK based on all data sources achieving a high accuracy (R2 = 0.78, MAE = 8.28 t·ha−1, and RMSE = 10.54 t·ha−1). The comparison of the RF and RFRK models exhibited that additionally interpolated residuals by OK were more accurate than only considering the influences of predictor covariates. The relative improvement of the RFRK models over the RF models in forest SOCD estimation was notable, with $$\:{RI}_{ { R}^{2 } }$$ ranging from 8.20 to 65.00%, $$\:{RI}_{MAE}$$ ranging from 8.18 to 21.07%, and $$\:{RI}_{RMSE}$$ ranging from 6.76 to 18.18%. The result from our case study emphasizes the robustness of RFRK using S2, AL2, DEM, and climatic data in accurately predicting forest SOCD.

    Statistical change in official temperature records at Okayama City caused by relocation of meteorological observation field of Meteorological Agency was evaluated. The observation field of Okayama local meteorological observatory was moved to the Tsushima Campus of Okayama University from the downtown area of Okayama City in March, 2015. Comparison between the air temperature records measured at meteorological agency station and the records at Tanjo Pond in Tsushima Campus, showed 0.56 ℃ drop in annual average before and after relocation. Moreover, comparison between the records of Okayama local meteorological observatory and that at the surrounding meteorological observing 9 stations showed 0.55 ℃ drop in annual average. Those results suggest that the relocation dropped annual average of air temperature by about 0.6 ℃.

    A method to estimate of land use type such as saline lands, sand dunes, grassland etc. from topographic characteristics such as altitude, gradient and altitude difference in an irrigated arid agricultural area was developed and yearly change of saline area was estimated. It was statistically shown that sand dunes and lakes are located adjacent to each other. The water balance, which is the difference between inflow and outflow amount of water for each partial block, was found to be larger in blocks with higher area of sand dune and the saline land. From the continuous groundwater levels monitored at the middle of the dune slope, foot of the dune and the surrounding area, it was found that the variation of the levels was consisted of annual fluctuation due to irrigation, fluctuation accompanying rainfall event and daily fluctuation accompanying evapotranspiration, and that the sand dunes play roles to store the irrigated water and to supply the water to the surrounding area.

    Rural amenity is defined as the fusion of community facility, social capital, environmental and landscape resources, its maintenance and improvement is common in east Asian countries. So, after the comparative study of four countries, research in each country is conducted. The district carried amenity improvement project received a number of tourists from urban area, becomes activated in each country. Community-based initiatives are particularly effective. Analyzing the impact of personal attributes as the evaluation of amenities, relationship was observed in individual attributes and important amenity items.

    (1)A model which can estimate evaporation only by maximum and minimum ground surface temperature (MST model) was developed. Spatial distribution of evaporation of Hetao Irrigation District, Inner Mongolia, China was estimated by satellite image and MST model and the results were validated.
    (2)Relationship between spatial distribution of saline area in the District and topological, geographical conditions was analyzed.
    (3)Based on the relationship between seasonal change of annual average and deviation of NDVI (Normalized Vegetation Index) obtained by MODIS image and the estimated evaporation, saline risk area was identified.
    (4)As constraints of linear programming, water balance based on estimated evaporation and salt balance of each sub region was considered, and drainage water quality of each sub region was specified by a leaching efficiency coefficient. Applying linear programming, optimal sustainable water allocation was determined. The results showed that improvement of conveyance efficiency is effective as measures for improvement of the irrigation and drainage system.

    東アジア4ヶ国(日本、韓国、中国、台湾)からコミュニティ計画論の研究者を招き,2010年8月22日から26日にかけて京都大学で国際ワークショップ(WS)を開催し、各国のコミュニティ計画論について濃密な意見交換と比較考察を行った。日本からは「集落自治組織の再編」と「まちづくりにおける自治組織の機能」に関する報告があり、韓国からは「農村マウル総合開発事業」に関する報告(2事例)があった。また、中国からは「新農村建設事業」に関する設計事例の報告(2事例)が、台湾からは「2010年に制定された農村再生条例に基づくコミュニティ計画の取り組み」と「文化的資源による社区発展の比較分析」がそれぞれ報告された。各国の報告はコミュニティ計画と地域づくりにかかわる最新の事例を取り扱っているが、計画論を規定する各要素(計画の区域、事業主体、住民組織、参加のスタイル、専門家の関与、行政の関与、助成)に着目してこれらを整理したところ、それぞれの共通点と相違点が鮮明となり、東アジア各国のコミュニティ計画論を包括した枠組みの設定が可能であることがわかった。他方、報告内容から重点的な関心を読み取り、それを比較するならば、中国では計画策定の方法論(狭義の計画論)が、韓国では、地域づくりのマネジメント(広議の計画論)と関係主体の連携が、台湾と日本では住民主体の形成(キャパシティ・ビルディング)がそれぞれ中心的な課題として扱われていたが、これは、各国のコミュニティ計画論がおかれている環境条件に大きく左右されていることが推察された。これらの成果は、『比較農村計画論』の確立に貢献するものである。

    本研究課題は里地里山の環境変化と鳥獣被害の関係を,マクロ,メソ,ミクロの異なる空間階層ごとに明らかにし,それらの関係を数学的にモデル化することを試みるものであるが,1年目にはマクロレベルとミクロレベルの分析を,2年目にはメソレベルの分析を行った。3年目となる本年度は,各空間レベル(3階層)のモデルの統合を試みる予定であったが,上位階層のデータが得られにくいことから,実効的な統合モデルの作成は困難であると考えられた。
    一方,近年の鳥獣被害の台頭は土地利用変化が大きな要因であると指摘されているところであり,特に,休耕地の増加や水田の作付体系の多様化が大いに関係していると考えられることから,土地利用変化と鳥獣被害の関係をマクロレベルのような広い範囲で分析することは,3階層の統合モデルの作成と同等に意義深いものであると考えられる。特に,近年は衛星リモートセンシング技術とGISの進歩により,広い範囲の土地利用状況を高い精度で把握することが可能となってきつつある。
    そこで,衛星画像による水田の作付時期の判別がどの程度可能であるかについて,予察的な分析を行うこととした。結果として,中解像度の光学センサーであれば,かなりの精度での判別が期待できるが,田植え時期は晴天日が少ないため,観測機会が少ないという欠点があること,また,マイクロ波センサーであれば,観測が天候には影響されない利点があるものの,判別精度が低いという欠点があることが分かった。そこで,高頻度観測衛星による水面率の推計を試みたところ,湛水実績と推計値は比例関係にあり,高頻度観測衛星を補完的に用いることで精度の向上が期待できると考えられた。
