本研究課題が対象とする、異なる信念（体系）を持つ人々の健康・医療に関する選択・意思決定という問題のアクチュアリティはコロナ禍により鮮明になったと思われるが、当初の計画通り、初年度は各研究者がそれぞれの専門性・関心に基づいて、論文・書籍・オンラインの資料を中心に情報収集を行った。研究計画では初年度および第2年度にかけて文献検討を中心に研究を進めることになっており、現在までのところ予定していた通りに研究を実施している。その他、第８回釧路生命倫理フォーラム（8月27-29日開催）の中で会合を開き、研究グループに所属しない研究者を含めて情報交換・意見交換を行った。また、第26回岡山生命倫理研究会（2月12－13日開催）の中でも会合を開き、さらに、今回の研究対象になるものとして、柔道整復を取り上げ、その教育・実践でリーダーシップをとる教育機関関係者に依頼し、その実情や標準的な治療としてのいわゆる西洋医学との関係性について講演を依頼し、ここでも研究グループに属さない研究者を含めて、現状の把握、問題点の抽出など、検討を進めた。また、各分担者の判断で必要と思われる学会等に参加した。研究代表者は日本生命倫理学会の基礎理論部会の部会員としての活動においても自律概念と関係の深いインフォームド・コンセントについて検討を進めたほか、脳死判定拒否に関する調査のアップデートを進めている状況である。今後、柔道整復に関するものを含め、各研究者がすでに調査した範囲について論文作成を進めるほか、新型コロナの感染状況と渡航の可能性を考慮しつつ、社会調査・在外研究の具体的内容・実施形態・スケジュール等について検討していく予定である。
