China and the Modern World: Imperial China and the West Part I, 1815-1881を購入した。
    収集した資料の検討も併せ、本研究が鍵概念とする翻訳の問題について、具体的なアプローチは次年度により深く取り組むことになる。

The research meetings, concerning immigration and settlement through the passage to South Africa, were held in 2018 and in 2019. Each member of the project had reported the sources and its analysis about their theme. In addition, the members planned to edit the book collected papers related. Further, Mizui had been to London for researching at British Library, while Tsujimoto had been there for collecting the sources about British Military History in the first year.
The members would have stayed at Cape Town for researching at several archives during the second year, along with UK and Holland, yet the global affairs of preventing Covid 19 made it difficult. The members decided to extend the research period into the fourth year, however, it could never be fine to research abroad until the end of the fourth year. In July 2021, a book East India Passages and Historical sources, the members used the sources collected from online databases, with the printed sources.

This research explored changes observed in and around port towns on the Coromandel Coast in the later seventeenth and early eighteenth century. This work aimed to place the early history of Madras more in the context of local history of South India, as the process is usually considered to be the beginning of the English colonization of India and so has been examined mainly from the perspective of European expansion. For such a purpose it is necessary to examine multilingual primary sources including the records of both English and Dutch East India Companies and Persian manuscripts. Analyzing part of those materials shows us what changes the existing ports in the region experienced in those days, which provides appropriate examples to compare with the case of Madras.

The main purpose of the project is to investigate the historical development of relationships between port cities and their inland regions in order to clarify the formation of the world-wide and local orders. Recent maritime studies, which have clarified the development of maritime networks from the early modern era, are inclined to suggest the intensification of influence of the port cities upon their hinterlands. Meanwhile, our project by examining various cases in Asia, Europe, North and South America, Europe and Japan has shown that the relationships between the two did not necessarily transform themselves into one-sided. While some cases showing the formation of more homogeneous areas by the development of traffic, in other cases appear growing disconnections between the two during the modern era. These cases suggest us the renewed importance of the role of the go-between who mediates the port city and its inland society creating the "outer" and "inner" areas.

This research project explored the towns in India which originally established by the English East India Company. As the women in those towns are the key of this project, two books were published during the 3 years' period. In these books, the issue that the East India Company acted as the manor lord for those towns had the clear plan for the emigration of women from Britain is argued. As the result of the argument, it appears that it is important to relate the Company's role and its plan to those of the British colonial government in the later period. This may also be able to make it clear the process of constructing the British Empire.

Focusing the aspect which the towns made their governing area clear by being granted the charters from the English Crown or Mughal Empire, this research discussed the cases of the towns of Madras and Bombay in the 17th century. The outcome of this research will be published as several articles in the two edited books by the end of March 2015. It drew the issues for the next research project, namely the nature of social history in the boundary of the towns planted by European Companies. It is also significant for the next research to learn how the various primary sources both in EIC period and in the Colonial period. connected.

In this rapidly globalized contemporary world, people need to have a consciousness that they belong to the earth and have to work together to solve a pile of global and difficult problems. To create the identity of global citizen, we have to try to describe a world history which could be shared by people of the world. Through our five-year cooperative research project, we are successful in making a common ground where we can discuss world history in Japanese.
However, the meaning of world history in Japanese is not the same with world history or global history in English. So is the case with French or Chinese. To realize a world history for global citizen, people of different countries have to understand the perception of world or global history in the language of others and prepare a platform for discussion.
