観光ルート推薦の問題は，なんらかの目的関数を最大化する最適化問題として定式化することができる．たとえば旅行者の興味や満足度をスコアとして表した関数の値を最大化する観光ルートを求める問題として定式化することができる．この最適なルートを求める問題はTravelling Salesman Problem（TSP）と類似した整数計画問題として記述することができる．しかしTSPと同様の定式化をすると不適切な解が頻繁に計算される問題が生じる．たとえば一筆書きにならない途切れたルートが頻繁に計算される問題が生じる．この問題を解決する制約条件を本研究では提案する．提案する制約条件には計算時間が大幅に増大する問題がある．そこで計算時間を短縮する制約条件をさらに追加する手法を提案する．提案手法の有効性を示すために2種類の目的関数を使った実験を行った．1つ目は訪問する観光スポットの人気度の総和，2つ目は旅行者をマルコフ遷移モデルで表した場合の対数尤度を目的関数として設定し実験を行った．どちらの目的関数を使用した実験でも，提案手法によって計算される観光ルートは，Greedyな解法で計算したルートと比べておおよそ2倍の目的関数の値を与えることを確認した．Tour recommendation can be formulated as finding an optimized tour that maximizes a given objective function. For example, tour recommendation can be formulated as maximizing the score that represents the degree of a user's interest as an objective function. The optimization problem can be solved as the integer programming problem using the similar formulation as used in Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP). However, the integer programming problem gives invalid solutions frequently. For example, the optimized tour frequently includes interrupted routes. This research proposes additional constraints for the integer programming problem that can resolve this problem. However, the integer programming problem including the proposed additional constraint requires huge computational time to solve. This research also proposes other additional constraints that can resolve this computational time problem. The proposed formulations are evaluated using two objective functions. The first objective function is the score which represents the popularity of each spot. The second objective function is the likelihood of a Markov chain model of tourists. We show the formulation using these additional constraints can compute better solutions that have almost a twice better score than a greedy method using these two objective functions.

少量学習データによる参考文献書誌情報抽出精度の向上査読

電子図書館の運用には，書誌情報データベースの整備が必須である．特に学術論文の参考文献欄には有用な書誌情報が集約されている．そこで我々は，Conditional Random Field（CRF）を用いて参考文献文字列から書誌情報を自動抽出する手法を提案した．しかし，書誌情報を高精度に抽出するには雑誌ごとに一定量の学習データを用意する必要があり，その生成コストが問題だった．本稿では，学習データが少ない場合に，能動サンプリングと擬似学習データ，転移学習を利用して抽出精度を改善する方法を提案する．実験では，抽出精度と必要とする学習データ件数を評価し，提案手法の有効性について考察した．The effective use of digital libraries demands maintenance of bibliographic databases. Especially, the reference fields of academic papers are full of useful bibliographic information. We, therefore, proposed a method of automatically extracting bibliographic information from reference strings using a conditional random field (CRF). However, at least a few hundred reference strings are necessary for training the CRF to achieve high extraction accuracies and the preparation of such human-labeled data for training is usually expensive. As described herein, we propose the use of active sampling, pseudo-training data and transfer learning to improve extraction accuracies with a small amount of training data. Then we evaluate the extraction accuracies and the associated training costs by experimentation and discuss the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper discusses the problems of analyzing title page layouts and extracting bibliographic information from academic papers. Information extraction is an important function for digital libraries to offer, providing versatile and effective access paths to library content. Sequence analyzers, such as those based on a conditional random field, are often used to extract information from object pages. Recently, digital libraries have grown and can now handle a large number and wide variety of papers. Because of the variety of page layouts, it is necessary to prepare multiple analyzers, one for each type of layout, to achieve high extraction accuracy. This makes rule management important. For example, at what stage should we invest in a new analyzer, and how can we acquire it efficiently, when receiving papers with a new layout? This paper focuses on the detection of layout changes and how we learn to use a new sequence analyzer efficiently. We evaluate the confidence metrics for sequence analyzers to judge whether they would be suited to title page analysis by testing three academic journals. The results show that they are effective for measuring suitability. We also examine the sampling of training data when learning how to use a new analyzer.

We propose an automatic method of extracting bibliographies for academic articles scanned with OCR markup. The method uses conditional random fields (CRF) for labeling serially OCR-ed text lines on an article's title page as appropriate names for bibliographic elements. Although we achieved excellent extraction accuracies for some Japanese academic journals, we needed a substantial amount of training data that had to be obtained through costly manual extraction of bibliographies from printed documents. Therefore, this paper reports an empirical evaluation of active sampling applied to the CRF-based extraction of bibliographies to reduce the amount of training data. We applied active sampling techniques to three academic journals published in Japan. The experiments revealed that the sampling strategy using the proposed criteria for selecting samples could reduce the amount of training data to less than half or even a third of those for two academic journals. This paper also reports the effect of pseudo-training data that were added to training. © 2010 IEEE.

With more appropriate linkage of digital libraries to Web resources, online-browsing of research papers would be much comfortable since many digital libraries of research papers are online and accessible from the Web. This paper proposes a browsing support system for reading research papers online with the use of OCRed text of scanned academic articles. Our digital library stores scanned document images of research papers; hence, their OCRed texts can be cheaply obtained. The proposed system extracts technical terms from the OCRed text, searches the Web for the best explanatory descriptions of the terms, and gives the terms the links to the retrieved Web pages. This paper also describes an experimental exploration of several aspects of the proposed system, including the extraction accuracy of technical terms and the precision of retrieved Web pages.

CRFを用いた学術論文OCRテキストからの自動書誌要素抽出査読

文献データベースは学術論文を所蔵する電子図書館では不可欠である．しかし紙媒体の論文からの書誌要素抽出は，OCR などの画像処理技術を利用してもその抽出コストは高い．そこで本稿では，OCR 処理された学術論文から書誌要素を自動的に抽出する手法を提案する．提案手法では，まず OCR の文書画像処理によって得られた矩形テキスト領域に対して，あらかじめ定義した書誌要素を表すラベルを付与する．さらに，必要に応じて矩形テキスト領域内の各文字に対してもラベル付けを行う．この文字へのラベル付けによって，複数の著者名が記述された矩形テキスト領域から各著者の名前を抽出することができる．提案手法では，矩形テキスト領域や文字へのラベル付けに Conditional Random Fields（CRF）を使用する．言語の異なる 2 種類の論文誌を用いて実験を行ったところ，矩形領域へのラベル付けは，和文誌で 97.56%，英文誌で 97.27% の精度であった．また文字へのラベル付けによる和文誌の和文著書名領域からの各著者名の抽出精度は 99% 以上を達成した．Bibliographic databases are indispensable to digital libraries of academic articles. However, extracting bibliographic elements from printed documents requires a lot of human intervention; it is not cost-effective, even when using various document image-processing techniques such as optical character recognition (OCR). In this paper, we propose an automatic bibliographic element extraction method for academic articles scanned with OCR markup. The proposed method first labels text blocks as predetermined bibliographic elements and then further labels the characters in each labeled text block if necessary. The second labeling enables us to extract each author's name from the authors' text block. The method uses conditional random fields (CRF) for labeling both text blocks and the characters in them. We applied the method to Japanese and English academic articles. The experiments showed that the proposed method correctly extracted all the predefined bibliographic text blocks from 97.56% of the Japanese articles and 97.27% of English ones, respectively. The proposed method also correctly extracted all the author name strings from more than 99% of the Japanese authors' text blocks in the Japanese articles.

The Earth Mover's Distance (EMD) and the quadratic-form distance (QFD) are representative distances used in similarity searches of images. Although the QFD greatly outperforms the EMD in speed, the EMD outperform the QFD in performance. The EMD, however, has almost no theoretical justification and requires high computation costs. We propose a feature space model we call a "multi-vector feature space based on pseudo-Euclidean space and an oblique basis (MVPO)." In MVPO, an object such as an image is represented by a vector set ( roughly speaking, a solid) and the EMD is reinterpreted as the distance between vector sets while the QFD is reinterpreted as the distance between the centroids of vector sets. Therefore MVPO gives a common geometrical view to these distances. We hypothesized that in MVPO the entity of an image is represented by a vector set ( solid) and geometrical reasoning is applicable to MVPO. Our hypothesis explains well that the EMD outperforms the QFD in performance because the centroid of a solid is the simplest approximation of it. Our hypothesis implies that the performance of the QFD should be good when solids are far apart but bad when they are close together. We conjectured that discriminability would decline - that is, dissimilar images would be judged to be similar - when the centroids of solids are very close. Our experiment supported this conjecture. And from our hypothesis we conjectured that by making an original solid simpler, we can make an approximation method that has better performance than the QFD and faster than the EMD. The results of our experiment with this method supported our conjecture and consequently our hypothesis.

メタ検索において利用される検索エンジン数に対応する次元をもつ空間を考える.各検索エンジンの検索結果リストは本当の検索結果から各次元軸上に射影した結果であるとする.メタ検索における検索結果の統合では, 一般に, その軸の直交性をもとに統合を行っている.これは, 各検索エンジンでそれぞれ異なった方針に基づきランキングを行っているため独立の検索結果であると仮定しているからである.しかし, 各検索結果間には何らかの相関が存在し, 直交でなく斜交していると考えた方が自然である.本研究では, 各検索エンジンの検索結果について, その間の相関から斜交の角度を決定し, 統合する方法を提案する.この方法は事前トレーニングによる重み付けと異なり, 検索ごとに相関を決める動的な統合方法である.最後に, 提案方法と直交を仮定した統合方法の比較検討を行う.

XMLはその登場とともに爆発的に普及し,インターネット上の標準的なデータ交換形式となりつつある.利用機会が増えるにつれ,膨大なXMLデータの効率的管理を行う手法を確立することが急務となっている.インターネットで世界がつながっている現代では蓄積されたデータをリアルタイムに変更することが容易にできる.つまりデータの管理とはひとえに大規模なデータを格納するということだけでなく,更新されるデータの各バージョンを効率良く格納し,また検索できなければならない.我々は関係データベースと連携させることによりXMLデータの効率的管理を容易に行う手法について研究を行っている.本論文では関係データベース上に構成されたXMLデータの版管理を行う手法について述べる.XMLの版管理にはRCSのような行指向の版管理ツールも利用できるが,XMLの文法が考慮されていないためXMLのタグ構造に沿った差分データを得ることができず,効率が悪い.また,XMLを関係データベースに格納する研究は盛んであるが,関係データベースに格納したXMLの版管理についてはほとんど議論されていない.本論文では差分データを用いたXML版管理について二つの性質の異なるデータベース構成法を提案する.一つは高速な検索が可能なスキーマであり,他方は更新・管理が容易なデータベースの構築を特徴としている.

Investigators have tried to increase the precision of similarity searches of images by using distance functions that reflect the similarity of features. When the quadratic-form distance is used, however, dissimilar images can be judged to be similar. We therefore propose that the similarity of images be evaluated using a measure of distance in a multi-vector feature space based on pseudo-Euclidean space and an oblique basis (MVPO). In this space an image is represented by a set of vectors each of which represents each feature. And we propose a distance (called D-distance) between two sets of vectors. Roughly speaking, it is the distance between solids.Another representative distance used in similarity searches is the Earth Mover's Distance (EMD). It can be formalized using MVPO, and that explains well why EMD outperforms quad-ratic-form distance. The main difference between EMD and D-distance is that EMD is based on partial matching and D-distance is based on total matching.We also discuss performance issues of MPVO and D-distance to address practical use of them. Optical Character Reader (OCR) incorrect recognition is a serious problem when searching for OCR-scanned documents in databases such as digital libraries. In order to reduce costs, this paper proposes fuzzy retrieval methods for English text containing errors in the recognized text without correcting the errors manually. The proposed methods generate multiple search terms for each input query term based on probabilistic automata which reflect both error-occurrence probabilities and character-connection probabilities. Experimental results of test-set retrieval indicate that one of the proposed methods improves the recall rate from 95.96% to 98.15% at the cost of a decrease in precision from 100.00% to 96.01% with 20 expanded search terms.

Decentralized XML databases are often used in Electronic Commerce(EC)business models such as e-brokers on the Web. To flexibly model such applications, we need a modeling language for EC business processes. To this end, we have adopted a query language approach and have designed a query language, called XBML, for decentralized XML databasesused in EC businesses. In this paper, we explain and validate the functionality of XBML by specifying e-broker business models and describe the implementation of the XBML server, focusing on the distributed query processing.

Optical character reader (OCR) misrecognition is a serious problem when OCR-recognized text is used for retrieval purposes in digital libraries. We have proposed fuzzy retrieval methods that, instead of correcting the errors manually, assume that errors remain in the recognized text. Costs are thereby reduced. The proposed methods generate multiple search terms for each input query term by referring to confusion matrices, which store all characters likely to be misrecognized and the respective probability of each misrecognition. The proposed methods can improve recall rates without decreasing precision rates. However, a few million search terms are occasionally generated in English-text fuzzy retrieval, giving an intolerable effect on retrieval speed. Therefore, this paper presents two remedies to reduce the number of generated search terms while maintaining retrieval effectiveness. One remedy is to restrict the number of errors included in each expanded search term, while the other is to introduce another validity value different to our conventional one. Experimental results indicate that the former remedy reduced the number of terms to about 50 and the latter to not more than 20. © 2000 Springer-Verlag.
