A Scheme for Adaptive Image-band Interference Cancellation with RLS Algorithm in Heterodyne Multimode Receivers

Multimode receivers is investigated to use number of wireless systems with one receiver. When we construct multimode receivers using heterodyne reception, the imageband interference arises and deteriorates transmission characteristics significantly because of removal of radio frequency filter. Therefore, cancellation methods have been heretofore proposed, but they have problems that convergence properties are not good. To solve this problem, we proposed a cancellation method with good convergence characteristics, in which we calculate the weighting addition of baseband signals of the desired signal and the imageband signals. We can apply this method in rayleigh fading channels, but we found that the bit-error rate characteristics will deteriorate. Then, in this report, I describe that we can realize a cancellation method which has good convergence properties without deterioration of the bit-error rate characteristics with using the RLS algorithm.

Orthogonal STBC causes a problem, transmission rate decreasing with the multiplication of antennas. Using Quasi-Orthogonal STBC, while decoding is complicated, we can solve this problem. Moreover, allocating the redundancy of FEC to the rate difference between Orthogonal STBC and Quasi-Orthogonal STBC in order to achieve higher quality communication of the same rate with Orthogonal STBC. This paper proposes a scheme to decode Quasi-Orthogonal STBC and convolutional codes at the same time, and estimate its scheme in the aspect of BER.

To suppress cochannel interference and receive desired transmitted signals properly, adaptive array antennas is so useful technique. Recently, control algorithms of adaptive array antennas that suppress interference waves more than receive antennas have been studied. In those algorithms, it has been showm that LBER (least bit error rate) has better bit error rate property than LMS (least mean square). In this paper, I apply LBER to control adaptive array antennas and verify the property in cochannel interference environment and analyze the operation.

When we realize multimode receivers, we need to remove BPF (Band-Pass Filter) of RF (Radio Frequency), but if we construct multimode receivers using heterodyne reception, the imageband interference arises and deteriorates transmission characteristics significantly. Then, cancellation methods have been heretofore proposed, they have problems that convergence properties are not good. Therefore, I propose a cancellation method which makes converge faster in this report. In this method, we use frequency converters to receive desired signals and imageband signals, and add both outputs with weighting. I picked out CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) as a transmission system. In the case, I propose a method to treat imageband interference cancellation and rake reception at a time. I describe that the proposed method has a superior property on 2 paths Rayleigh fading channels.

Frequency domain equalization for single carrier transmission systems has drawn much interest because it achieves superior performance even in severe multipath fading channels with the assist of cyclic prefix (CP), which is attached at the top and tail of an FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) frame. However, the frequency domain equalizer can not keep the performance unless channel impulse response is regarded constant during the FFT frame. In other words, performance of the equalizer degrades due to fast fading channels. This means the additional noise at the output of the equalizer is generated by fast fading, equivalently. Therefore, MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) channel estimation is desired to take the noise into account in order to resist the performance degradation. This paper proposes an MMSE channel estimation scheme based on an iterative noise estimation scheme which is able to estimate the additional noise and the additive Gaussian noise.

It is desired that multimode receivers which communicate with several wireless communication systems are composed by a single wireless platform. Conventionally, multimode receivers that don't need the RF (Radio Frequency) filter in the RF front end of the wireless machine and implement the property of imege-band interference cancel are proposed. In this report, we propose a code synchronization method when we apply these multimode receivers to SS (Spread Spectrum) system which used in the third-generation mobile communication system. We propose two kinds of code synchronization methods, and compare overall characteristic of these and image-band interference cancel method by the simulation. multimode receivers
