  • Research on Development of Word Recognition in English Listening : Using Word- and Chunk-Lists Based on Error Analysis in Dictation Reviewed

    KOYAMA Takashi

    ( 11 )   68 - 83   2014.3

     More details

    Language:Japanese

Two kinds of English word lists were used for the development of spoken word recognition in listening. Two groups of students practiced with either the list of correct answers of chunks or the list of chunks plus words with contrasting phoneme sequence based on error analysis of dictation. The effects were measured by the dictation of words containing target phoneme sequences in different sentence contexts and were analyzed. Some suggestive findings were observed from the results.

Two kinds of English word lists based on error analysis of dictation were used for the improvement of spoken word recognition in listening. Two classes of university students practiced with either the list of correct answers or that of words with contrasting phoneme sequence based on error analysis. The effects were measured by the dictation of target words in different sentence contexts and were analyzed comparing with the results of the first dictation. Some suggestive findings can be observed from the results.

  • On the Mechanism of Listening Comprehension in English: From an Analysis of PSU and Memory Reviewed

    KOYAMA Takashi

    JACET Chugoku-Shikoku Chapter research bulletin   ( 6 )   1 - 15   2009

     More details

    Language:Japanese

The Perceptual Sense Unit (PSU) is hierarchical (Kohno, 2001), in which perception of phonemes and syllables should be done prelexically (Koyama, 2008). Word recognition precedes syntactic processing (Cutler & Clifton, 1999). Phonological Memory (PM) could be effective in learning of grammar only through its effect on vocabulary learning (Williams & Lovatt, 2005). Prelexical perception and word recognition should be a prerequisite for better grammatical processing in listening.

    本研究では、第一段階で英語字幕に処理を施したビデオ教材が作成された。英語の音声の聞き取りに影響を及ぼすと思われる英語字幕の提示の仕方を条件として取り上げ、これを独立変数とし、従属変数としてクローズ・テスト形式の書き取りテストの成績が測定された。
    仮説:速聴用の処理を英語字幕に施したビデオ教材で学習したクラスの方が聞き取り能力が伸びる。
    方法 使用教材:(1)T.V.News From the U.S.A.[4]
    (2)Zoom in on Australlia
    実験期間:'96,10月第3週 TOEIC リスニング・セクション(プリテスト)
    11月第4週(1)Unit5
    '97,1月第2週(2)Unit5
    1月第4週(2)Unit6(ポストテスト)
