A Scheduling Method on Media Data Broadcasting Considering Error Resilience

Due to the recent spread of the multimedia system, delivering continuous media data, i.e. audio and video, has been attracted great attention. In broadcasting systems, generally, clients have to wait until their desired data is broadcast. Therefore, there are many researches to reduce the waiting time. We have been proposed several scheduling methods in continuous media data. However, we did not consider the case where the server delivers segments considering the error resilience in actual network. In this paper, we propose a scheduling method to reduce the waiting time considering error resilience. In our proposed method, we can reduce waiting time by producing an effective broadcasting schedule according to the time between receiving the segment and playing it. In addition, by allocating latter part of segments considering packet loss, interruption can be reduced.

近年のインターネット放送の普及にともない，音声や映像などの連続メディアデータをIPネットワークで配信する研究が盛んに行われている．複数のクライアントに同時にデータを配信する放送型配信は，クライアント数が多い場合に有効であるが，クライアントはデータの受信要求から再生開始まで待つ必要がある．この待ち時間を削減するために，データを分割して配信する分割放送型配信のスケジューリング手法は多数提案されているが，ほとんどは定性的な評価である．分割放送型配信のシステムも提案されているが，汎用性は低く，実際のネットワーク環境に対応できない．そこで，汎用性を考慮した分割放送型配信システムを実現する．

Recently, webcast, ie, delivering contents such as music or moveis via Internet, have attracted great attention. In conventional server-client types, interruption time of playing the data increases when the number of clients increases. In this paper, we evaluate node relay based webcast systems that relay data among nodes. In such systems, nodes receive data and also transmit them to other nodes. Comparing with server-client types, the number of nodes that can transmit data increases and the load of the server can be reduced. As a result of our evaluations, we confirmed that the interruption time is reduced although the overhead occurs.

Due to the recent diversion of watching styles of movies, streaming delivery in IP networks have attracted great attention. In streaming systems, to distribute the network load, peers from which the user receives data is selected at random. Since clients have to wait until their desired data is delivered, there are many researches to reduce the waiting time. However, because of the complexity of the implementation, they usually evaluate these methods using machine simulation. Indeed, interruption time is not always reduced by increasing clients to deliver data. To evaluate the availability of streaming systems, it is important to implement the Internet streaming system. In this paper, by evaluating the interruption time of the division based broadcasting system, we consider situations that the proposed system is effective.

For example, in a quiz program, a user selects his answer and watches the video content for the answer. Although the server can deliver programs matching users' preferences, clients have to wait until their selected contents are played. Therefore, we have proposed a method to reduce the waiting time considering transition probabilities. However, by considering play-sequence of selective contents, the waiting time can be reduced further. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the waiting time for selective contents broadcasting considering play-sequence.

Our proposed method reduces the waiting time by allocating broadcast channels that have same bandwidth as the contents consumption rate and scheduling contents according totransition probability.

Due to the recent spread of the Internet, delivering continuous media data, i.e. audio and video, on the IP (Internet Protocol) networks has been attracted great attention. In broadcasting systems, generally, the server broadcasts the same data repetitively. Although the server can deliver the data to many clients concurrently, clients have to wait until their desired data are broadcast. To reduce the waiting time, we designed and implemented a division based broadcasting system for IP networks. Previous researches often assume that there are many clients and broadcasting delivery is effective. However, these researches did not show its concrete availability. In this paper, by evaluating the bandwidth availability of the division based broadcasting system, we consider situations that the proposed system is effective.

Due to the recent popularization of digital broadcasting systems, selective contents, i.e., users watch their selected contents, have attracted great attention. For example, in a news program, after a user selects his/her desired content, the user watches the content. In selective contents broadcasting, users often wait for receiving the next content after playing a content. Although conventional methods reduce necessary bandwidth for playing the data without wait, they do not consider the upper limit in the bandwidth. When there is an upper limit in the bandwidth, users have to unit for receiving the data. In this paper, we propose a scheduling method to reduce the waiting time. In our proposed method, by producing an effective broadcasting schedule according to the available bandwidth, the waiting time is reduced.
