The Relationship between Seasonal Radiation Amount and Time of Rainfall Event in Tropical Monsoon Asia

On-site observation data for about 5 years in Cambodia, which is located in Tropical Monsoon Asia, were collected and analyzed to evaluate its hydro-meteorological environment in wet and dry seasons, especially focusing on radiation amount. Daily radiation amount was proved to be almost same for each season and its amount for rainy days reached about 88% of that for non-rainy days. This was shown to be attributed to the time of rainfall event: most of the rainfall events were concentrated in the evening whereas not so many events were there around noon. Moreover, duration of the rainfall events was about 1 hour for most cases. The result we obtained here is thought to be applicable not only in Cambodia but also in other areas in Tropical Monsoon Asia. Evapotranspiration must be accelerated in the wet season with high radiative energy under the wet environment so that this relationship between radiation amount and time of rainfall event should be taken into account for evaluating evapotranspiration amount in this area.
