    With recent improvements in adhesive performance, adhesive joints are being increasingly used in various industrial fields. Despite their advantage of joining dissimilar adherends, adhesive joints are considered unsuitable for key components of mechanical structures due to their large variation in joint strengths. There are many factors that affect the strength of adhesive joints. However, the general bonding mechanisms are (1) mechanical, (2) physical, and (3) chemical bonding. The adhesion mechanism is complex because these phenomena occur simultaneously. Thus, it is necessary to consider these factors separately. Moreover, it is important to understand the bonding mechanism of interfaces in adhesive joints and to improve the reliability of the joint strength. In this study, the tensile strengths of single lap joints were measured to investigate the influence of large-area EB irradiation on strength characterization of adhesive joints. Aluminum alloy plates (A6061) were used as the adherend. Other surface treatments, which were sanding by emery paper, shot blast, and plasma irradiation, were also conducted for comparisons. Each treated surface of the adhered was examined with respect to the surface profile, wettability, and surface analysis by XPS. Results showed that the wettability of treated surfaces of adherend improved, and tensile strength of surface treated adhesive joints was also improved compared with that of the non-treated specimen. Specifically, the strength of the joint with EB irradiation was 1.9 times larger than that of the non-treated specimen. Finally, the effect of large-area EB irradiation on adhesive characterization was discussed.

    Improving the wear resistance of polymer-based materials can lead to high energy efficiency of transport machineries owing to the higher strength-to-weight ratio. Oxidized wood-utilized synthesized copper-based particles (OWCu) was incorporated into epoxy resin to investigate its effect on the wear resistance of OWCu-incorporated epoxy with the steel counterpart using a ball-on-plate tribometer. OWCu was mainly composed of CuO with a small amount of graphitic carbon, and the average particle size was approximately 0.5 mu m. A higher wear resistance was observed for the OWCu-incorporated epoxy at more than 0.6 mass% compared to the neat epoxy. The mechanism for the improvement of the wear resistance property was discussed, and it was revealed that the surface roughness of the steel counterpart was maintained at a low level for the OWCu-incorporated epoxy, which played a dominant role in reducing the wear of the OWCu-incorporated epoxy. The polishing effect of OWCu could reduce the surface roughness of the steel counterpart in the friction process. In addition, at higher concentrations of more than 5.0 mass%, OWCu adhered to the steel surface, which decreased the wear of the steel surface. OWCu is a promising material to enhance the wear resistance of polymer-based materials, especially with low elongation.

    Graphene oxide (GO) and oxidized wood-derived nanocarbon (oWNC) were dispersed in an epoxy resin to improve the mechanical and tribological properties of an epoxy resin. Mechanical properties of the GO/epoxy (GO/EP) and oWNC/epoxy composites (oWNC/EP) were investigated by tensile tests and nano-indentation. Under dry, water, and oil lubrication conditions, friction coefficients and wear volumes of these composites were measured. GO has single-layered structure. oWNC has chain-like nanostructures, and the nanochains are aggregated. GC) and oWNCs have same surface chemical composition due to the same oxidation treatment. Thus, in this study, the structure and morphology dependences of the nanocarbons in mechanical and tribological properties will be appeared when the nanocarbons were used as the additives in the resin. The tensile strength, tensile modulus, and hardness increased by 20%, 63%, and 35% in maximum by the addition of GO and oWNC to the epoxy resin, respectively. Moreover, the wear resistance of GO/EP and oWNC/EP was enhanced compared to that of a neat epoxy. The reduction rates of the wear volume for 5.0 mass% GO/EP and 1.0 mass% oWNC/EP achieved to 91% and 67%, respectively. Comparing GO and oWNC, oWNC effectively reduced the friction coefficient and wear at a lower concentration. The improvement of tribological properties after the addition of the oxidized nanocarbons can be attributed to the increase in the hardness and lubricity of the composites.

    Copper based particles were synthesized by a wood-powder-template-based process. Wood powders mixed with an aqueous cooper salt solution were heated under N2 gas flow, and then, the mixture of the charcoal powder and copper particles were heated in air to remove charcoal. Finally, oxidized wood-derived copper particles (OWCu) of less than 1 μm were synthesized. Wood powders acted as the template and limited the sizes of the copper particles. In addition, the tribological properties of OWCu in synthetic oil were investigated using a pin-on-plate reciprocating tribometer. Our results revealed that 0.5 mass% OWCu reduced both the friction coefficient (max 45%) and wear volume (max 39%) of SUJ2 lubricated by PAO4. The best reduction effect was obtained for OWCu synthesized at 400°C under N2 gas flow, which had the smallest average particle size, where the coverage of the OWCu layer on the wear track was the largest. These facts suggest that the particle size reduction of OWCu can increase the coverage and improve the friction coefficient and wear volume reduction effects of the lubricant. Control of the wood-powder-template-based synthesized particles to the optimal size for the roughness of the sliding surface would help achieve better tribological performance.

    In bolted joints, clamp force must be accurately controlled to secure their reliability. However, the clamp force varies widely in each tightening because friction coefficients at thread surfaces and bearing surfaces vary in each tightening due to lubricants, configuration error of bolts, surface roughness, and surface hardness, among other things. In this study, we investigated the robustness of polyisobutylene and ISO VG46 machine oil during the tightening process for several parameters of tightening conditions. We especially focused on variations of the friction coefficient between bearing surfaces at an appropriate target clamp force of M8 bolt/nut assemblies and change rates of the friction coefficients from the middle to the end of the appropriate target clamp force. Results showed that the friction coefficients at the target clamp force varied widely if ISO VG46 machine oil was used as a lubricant. In contrast, the variations of the friction coefficients in which polyisobutylene was used for tightening were small. Results also showed that the friction coefficients invariably decreased about 20% from the middle to the end of the target clamp force if ISO VG46 machine oil was used for the lubricant. However, if polyisobutylene was used, the friction coefficients were almost constant for all tightening instances.

    Cold forging is a metal forming that which uses localized compressive force at room temperature. During the cold forging process, the tool is subjected to extremely high loads and abrasive wear. Lubrication plays an important role in cold forging to improve product quality and tool life by preventing direct metallic contact. Surface roughness and residual stress also greatly affects the service life of a tool. In this study, variations in surface roughness, residual stress, and specimen deformation with the number of cold forging cycles were investigated under different forging conditions. Specimens that were made of heat-treated SKH51 (59–61 HRC), a high-speed tool steel with a polished working surface, were used. The specimens were subjected to an upsetting process. Compressive residual stress, surface roughness, and specimen deformation showed a positive relationship with the number of forging cycles up to a certain limit and became almost constant in most of the forging conditions. A larger change in residual stress and surface roughness was observed at the center of the specimens in all the forging conditions. The effect of the magnitude of the forging load on the above discussed parameters is large when compared to the effect of the lubrication conditions.

    Pipe flange connection with metal gasket is used under high temperature and pressure in place required high sealing performance. It has been known that gasket compressive force, which is closely related the leakage decreases by internal pressure action. Since the pressure is very high in metal gaskets, the sealing performance evaluation in internal pressure action is important. However, there is little research that evaluates a little leakage, metal gasket is empirically used up to the present time. Therefore, evaluated sealing performance of metal gasket, it is necessary to clarify the sealing mechanism. In this study, evaluated effect that decreasing of gasket compressive force affects leakage in both octagonal type and oval type in ring joint gasket by simplified leak test using grooved platen and finite element method stress analysis, evaluation method of leakage in metal gasket is proposed. Based on this evaluation method, decision method of initial tightening force that guaranteed one amount of leakage to design internal pressure is shown in pipe flange connection with metal gasket.

    In this study, the creep deformation in the threaded joint are discussed using a finite element method, and evaluated the influence of the dimensions of bolt and clamped parts. The stress and creep strain distributions are calculated using the Finite Element Analysis. The occurrence and the propagation of the creep deformation and influence of the creep deformation on the axial bolt force were discussed. It was found that the creep deformation occurred at the bearing surfaces and the engagement screw thread mainly at the elevated temperature. The creep deformation was a cause of the reduction in axial bolt force.

    In this paper, a mechanism of variation in axial bolt force in pipe flange connection during bolt tightening process is investigated. Especially, Correlation between torque coefficient and bolt preload is investigated. The actual pipe flange connection is tightened by a wrench due to the torque control method. Axial bolt forces were measured in the tightening process. The three types of gasket are chosen in this paper. As a result the good relationships are seen between torque coefficient and axial bolt force. The effect of gasket material on the relationships between torque coefficient and bolt preload is not seen.

    Since a scatter in axial bolt force exists in assembling the pipe flange connections, it is important to evaluate the effect of scatter in axial bolt force on the sealing performance of pipe flange connection. The FE and experimental analyses were done to evaluate the effect of scatter in axial bolt force on the sealing performance of pipe flange connection with 20 "nominal diameter. The results revealed that the large diameter pipe flange connection was sensitive to the scatter in axial bolt force. Besides, the large diameter pipe flange affected more by flange rotation when internally pressurized. As a result, a larger diameter pipe flange connection with scattered bolt preload showed poor sealing performance. The experimentally obtained scatter in axial bolt force as assembled was taken into account in FE analyses and the effect of the scatters on the contact gasket stress distributions was shown numerically. FE results show that the sealing performance is reduced due to the distributed gasket stress and bolt force scatter in the axial direction.

    The interface stress distributions in scarf adhesive joints with similar adherends under static tensile loadings were analyzed using two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element calculations for the two cases where adhesive length and width of the adherends were held constant. The effects of adhesive Young's modulus, the scarf angle and the adhesive thickness on the interface stress distributions were examined. In addition, the joint strength was predicted using the interface stress distributions based on the maximum principal stress theory and von Mises' stress criterion. It was found that when the scarf angle was around 60, the singular stress at the edges of the interfaces was minimal in the 3-dimensional FEM calculations while the singular stresses vanished at 52 in the 2-dimensional FEM calculations. The value of the normalized maximum principal stress at the edges of the interfaces obtained from the 3-D FEM was larger than that from the 2-D FEM. It was found that the maximum principal stress increased at the edge of the interfaces as the scarf angle decreased. In addition, the effect of the adherends where the width was held constant was demonstrated. Experiments to measure strain and joint strengths were carried out. The measured strains were in a fairly good agreement with those obtained from the 3-D FEM calculations. Also, the measured joint strengths were fairly consistent with the predicted results based on the maximum principal stress theory. As a result, the maximum joint strength was observed when the scarf angle was around 60. The difference in the interface stress distributions was demonstrated between the two cases.     Pipe flange connections with gaskets in chemical plants, electric power plants and other industrial plants are usually exposed to elevated internal pressure with cyclic thermal condition. It is important to investigate the sealing performance of pipe connections under long term severe thermal exposure swings to ensure operational safety. In this study, the effects of cyclic thermal conditions on the sealing performance and mechanical characteristics in larger and smaller nominal diameter of pipe flange connection are examined using FEM calculations. Helium gas leakage is predicted using the contact gasket stress obtained from the FEM results. On other hand, the leakage tests using the smaller nominal diameter of pipe flange connection were conducted to measure the amount of helium gas leakage and to compare with the predicted amount of gas leakage. As the results, the contact gasket stress distributions were changed dramatically under cyclic thermal condition and elevated internal pressure. In the pipe flange connections with smaller nominal diameter, the contact gasket stress was the smallest in the restart condition. On other hand, the minimum contact gasket stress in the pipe flange connection with larger nominal diameter was depending on the materials of connection. In the pipe flange connection with larger nominal diameter, the contact gasket stress distributed and changed in the radial direction due to the flange rotation. A fairly good agreement was found between the experimental leakage result and predicted leakage results.

    In the present paper, the gasket stress distributions, hub stress and a variation in axial bolt force in bolted gasketed pipe flange connections under internal pressure are analyzed using elasto-plastic FEM taking into account the nonlinearity of gasket behavior. Non-asbestos spiral wound gaskets were employed. The effect of nominal flange diameter is examined on the gasket contact stress distributions, the hub stress and the variation in axial bolt force (the load factor) is examined. Using the obtained gasket Contact stress distribution and the fundamental data of the relationship between gasket compressive stress and gasket leak rate according to JIS B 2490, a method for predicting the leak rate is demonstrated. Experiments to measure the amount of leakage, the hub stress and the variation in axial bolt force when the joint is under internal pressure were carried out. The numerical results of the leak rate, hub stress and the load factor are in a fairly good agreement with the measured results. Then, a method is demonstrated for determining the bolt preload under given conditions, that is, taking into account assembly efficiency, leak rate and internal pressure In addition, bolt preload is determined using the actual gasket contact stress which can be estimated using the value of the load factor. As a design example, the procedure for determining the bolt preload in 3 '' and 20 '' nominal diameter pipe flange connections is shown for the allowable leak rate of 1.0(-3)Pa . m(3)/s. The results are validated by the experiments.

    Bolted joints have been widely used in mechanical structures. However, a design of bolted joints has been carried out empirically. In designing a bolted joint, it is necessary to know a ratio of increment F-t in axial bolt force to an external tensile loading W, that is, the load factor phi=F-t/W. In our previous paper, the new formulation for obtaining the value of the load factor phi for a bolted joint in which two hollow cylinders were clamped was proposed by introducing the tensile spring constant K-pt for clamped parts. Then, it is shown that the values of the load factor of bolted joint obtained from our formulation are in a fairly good agreement with the experimental values. In addition, the effect of the position where an external load is applied to the joint is significant on the value of the load factor. In the present paper, a method for obtaining the value of the load factor for bolted T-shape flange joints in which two T-shape flanges are clamped by two bolts and nuts under tensile loadings is demonstrated using two-dimensional theory of elasticity. In the analysis of the load factor phi, the compressive spring constant K-c for a hollow cylinder around the bolt hole is calculated. The value of the correction factor K-c,/K-pt is also analyzed using the two-dimensional theory of elasticity. When the external tensile loads are applied to the joints, the bolts are inclined and as the result, the bending moment occurs in the bolts. A method for analyzing the bending stress in the bolts is also demonstrated. In the numerical calculations, the distance C between the bolt position and the center of T-shape flange is varied and the effect of the distance C on the load factor is examined. For the validation of the analyses, calculations are also carried out. Experiments to measure the load factor and the maximum stress due to the bending moment occurred in the bolts were carried out. The numerical results of the load factor and the maximum stress in the bolts are fairly coincided with the experimental results. Furthermore, a design method for the joints is discussed, that is, how to determine the bolt position C, the bolt preload for the external tensile loading, how to choose the bolt strength.

    The stress concentration factor (SCF) for the roots of screw threads in bolted joints under static loadings is analyzed using 3-D elastic FEM taking account the spiral of screw threads. At first, the stress states at the roots of screw threads in initial clamping state in a bolted joint where two hollow cylinders were clamped with a bolt and a nut were analyzed in initial clamping. The elastic FEM result of SCF for the first root was obtained as SCF=3.2. When the bolt was clamped in initial clamping (preload) at the 60 % of bolt yield stress, the plastic defamations were found at the first and the second roots, and non-engaged screw threads. It was found that as the external tensile loads increased, the development in plastic deformation region increased from the first root to the other roots as well as the non-engaged screw threads. It was found that the rupture occurred from the non-engaged screw threaded part while the plastic deformation increased at each root of screw threads. The numerical result was coincided with the experimental result. In the experiments, it was observed that the rupture occurred from the non-engaged screw thread and not from the first root of screw thread. Also, the bolt fatigue was predicted from FEM and it was shown that a fatigue fracture occurred from the first root.

    High strength bolts with washers are utilized widely for high reliability. The usage of the high strength bolts enables higher bolt preload, thus the contact stress at the bearing surfaces increase. When a bolted joint is under external axial load W, the axial bolt force increases by F-t, and the contact stress increases at the bearing surface. This may cause the plastic deformation and a decrease in the axial bolt force. Consequently, it is important to determine the initial axial bolt force (bolt preload) considering external load. In this paper, The characteristics of hollow cylindrical bolted joints with plain washers under external tensile loadings are analyzed using elasto-plastic FEM such as the contact stress distributions, plastic displacement(permanent set) at the bearing surfaces and the load factor Phi=(F-t/W). The effect of thickness of the plain washers on the contact stress distributions and the plastic displacements are clarified. It is found that the effect of the plain washer specified in JIS B 1256 is small on the contact stress distributions and the plastic displacements. Also, the effect of the external load on the changes in the contact stress distributions and the plastic displacements at the bearing surfaces using the values of load factor is observed to be small. The prediction for the reduction in axial bolt force was compared with the experiment. As a result, it was found that a higher bolt preload shows a small reduction in axial bolt force.

    Bolted flange connections with metal gasket have been used at higher pressure under higher temperature condition. Assembly procedures and tightening methods the connections including some types of metal gasket is empirically. Generally, it is known that the bolt preload which is required for satisfying an indicated leak rate in the connections including the metal gasket is not higher than that of the connections including sheet gaskets and spiral wound gaskets. However, no research for the evaluating the sealing performance in the bolted flange connections with metal gaskets has been conducted. In this paper, the leakage tests for the bolted flange connections with the metal flat gasket were conducted in the case where the maximum internal pressure of 7MPa and a bending moment are applied, where the leak rate is measured using the pressure drop method. Then, the sealing performance of the connections with the metal flat gasket was evaluated. In addition, using the FEM stress calculations, the flange stress distributions between the flange surface and the gasket were examined as the evaluation. As the result, it is found that the stress distribution at the contact surfaces between the metal flat gasket and the flange surface under the bending moment and the internal pressure. In the leakage tests, it was observed that the amount of the leakage (He gas) depends on the stress distributions and the plastic deformation of the gasket.

    Bolted flange connections with ring type joint gaskets have been used to seal the inner fluid under higher pressure and higher temperature conditions when soft gaskets cannot be used in the connections. However, few researches on the characteristics and the sealing performance evaluation for the bolted flange connections with metal ring gasket have been conducted. Therefore, assembly procedures and tightening methods of the connection with ring type joint gaskets is empirically and not fully elucidated. It is important to know the characteristics such as the contact gasket stress distribution which governs the sealing performance prediction, the sealing performance and the sealing mechanism in the bolted flange connections for determining optimum tightening methods and the bolt preload. In this paper, the differences of the sealing performance for the bolted flange connections (3") by the re-use octagonal and oval. type ring gaskets are examined. In the FEM calculations the contact gasket stress distributions and the range of plastic deformation are examined and the sealing mechanism is discussed. It is found that the basic sealing mechanism is caused by the plastic deformation at the contact area of the gasket. In addition, the leakage tests for the bolted flange connections with the nominal diameter of 20" with the octagonal ring type joint gaskets being inserted are conducted, where the bolt tightening for the connection is carried out according to both ASME PCC-1 and JIS B2251, respectively. Using these results, the optimum tightening methods for the connection with ring type joint gaskets are discussed.

    It is well known that bolted joints are sometimes loosened under transverse repeated loadings. Recently, some studies have been carried out on the mechanism of the bolt loosening under transverse repeated loadings. In the present research, the mechanism of bolt loosening was examined for a bolted joint using Junker's type loosening test machine under transverse repeated loadings. Furthermore, a rotational deformation of bolt axis and nut was analyzed using FEM. As a result, it is found that the rotational load is applied and the bolt loosening occurs due to the deformation between the bolt axis and the nut. The measured change in axial bolt force was fairly good agreement with the numerical results. In addition, the bolt loosening in bolted joints with dissimilar clamped parts was examined under temperature changes. Due to the temperature changes, it is assumed that a relative displacement among the bolt bearing surface and the bearing surfaces of the clamped parts and then it is found that a bolt loosening occurs. In FEM calculations, the behavior of the bolt loosening was examined and found to occur a slight loosening. In the experiments, the bolt loosening was measured under temperature changes. The material of dissimilar clamped parts is assumed steel and aluminum. The thickness of the clamped parts is 10nun.The tendency of the bolt loosening is fairly coincided between the numerical and the measured results. It was observed that the bolt loosening occurred easily as the clamped length (gap length) decreased. In the FEM calculations, the slope 0 of the bearing surfaces between the bolt head and the clamped part is assumed to be 0.5 degree to 2 degree. The effects of the slope of the bearing surfaces and on the bolt loosening are examined in the FEM calculations. The calculated results are in a fairly good agreement with the measured results. As the conclusions, 1) the bolt loosening of bolted joints under transverse repeated loadings was elucidated using 3-D FEM calculations, 2)Under repeated temperature changes, it was found that the bolt loosening occurred due to the slips between the bearing surfaces and the interfaces of clamped parts. Using FEM calculations, the behavior of the bolt loosening was elucidated.

Therefore, assembly procedures and tightening methods of the connection with ring joint gaskets is empirically. It is important to know the characteristics such as the contact gasket stress distribution, the sealing performance and the sealing mechanism in the bolted flange connections for determining optimum tightening methods and the bolt preload. In this paper, the leakage tests for the bolted flange connections (3 '') with the octagonal ring joint gaskets are conducted. Measuring the leak rate of inner fluid from the connections using the pressure drop method, the sealing performance of the connections with the ring joint gaskets is evaluated. In addition, using the 3-D FEM stress calculations, the gasket contact stress distributions for the connections with the octagonal ring joint gaskets are examined. Using these results, the optimum bolt preload of the connection with octagonal ring joint gaskets are discussed. Furthermore, the leakage tests for the bolted flange connections (20 '') with the octagonal ring joint gaskets are conducted in the case where the bolt tightening is carried out according to both ASME PCC-1 and JIS B 2251, respectively. The optimum tightening methods for the connection with octagonal ring joint gaskets are discussed.

    In designing bolted joints, it is necessary to know the contact stress distributions in bolted joints. Recently, high strength bolts have been used with a higher bolt preload. As the results, the permanent set occurs sometimes at the bearing surfaces of clamped parts in the bolted joint. In addition, when external loads such as tensile loads, transverse loads and bending moments are applied to the bolted joint, the permanent set can be extended at the bearing surfaces. As the permanent set increases, the reduction in the bolt preload increases. Thus, it is important to estimate the reduction in the bolt preload from the reliability stand point. However, no study on the permanent set at the bearing surface under the external loading taking into account the bending moment has been carried out. In this study, the stress distribution and the extension of the permanent set at the bearing surface of the T-flange bolted joint under the external tensile loading are examined using Finite Element Method (FEM), where two T-flanges are clamped with a hexagon bolt and a nut. Using the obtained results, an increment in the axial bolt force and the reduction in the bolt preload are estimated. For verification of the FEM stress analysis, the load factor of hexagon bolt was measured. The FEM results of the load factor (the ratio of the increment in the axial bolt force to the tensile load) and the axial bolt force are in a fairly good agreement with the experimental results.

    In designing a bolted joint, it is important to estimate an increment in axial bolt force when an external tensile load is applied to an assembly. The ratio of the increment Ft in the axial bolt force to the external tensile load W is called the load factor phi(=F-t/w). The formula phi=K-t/(K-t+K-c) proposed by Thum has been applied for estimating the value of the load factor phi, where K-t is the spring constant of bolt-nut system and K-c is the compressive spring constant of clamped parts. It has been found that the value of the load factor varies with the position of load application to the assembly. Then, a method to compensate Thum's formula was proposed. However, this compensation is made empirically and the theoretical background is not made clear. In this paper, the concept of the tensile spring constant K-pt for clamped parts is introduced newly when an external load is applied to the outer circumference of clamped parts (hollow cylinders) and a method for estimating the value of the load factor exactly is proposed by using K-pt. The value of K-pt is analyzed using an axisymmetric theory of elasticity. For verification of the proposed method, experiments were carried out to measure the load factor. A fairly good agreement is seen between the analytical and the experimental results of the values of the load factor while the values of the load factor obtained from Thum's formula were so different with the experimental results. The reason why the difference in the values of the load factor is substantial between values and the values obtained from Thum's formula is elucidated. It is found that the value of the load factor decreases as the outer diameter of the hollow cylinder increases and the as thickness of the clamped parts decreases. In addition, FEM calculations for the load factor are carried out. The FEM results are in a fairly good agreement with the theoretical results.

Bolted flange connection are frequently tightened using torque wrench, and it is known that the values of bolt preloads are scattered. The effect of the scatter on the sealing performance for bolted flange connections with compressed sheet gasket or semi-metal gasket has been examined. However, no research on the characteristics for the bolted flange connections with ring joint gasket has been found. It is necessary to know the effect of the scattered bolt preloads on the sealing performance and mechanical behavior of the connection with ring joint gasket. In addition, it is important to know an optimum method for determining the bolt preloads taking account of the scatter in bolt preloads.In this paper, leakage tests for bolted flange connections with octagonal ring joint gaskets were conducted for cases where the bolt preloads are uniform and scattered. The sealing performance of these connections with ring joint gaskets was measured and evaluated. In addition, the leak rate was estimated using the contact gasket stress distributions of the connections when the bolt preloads were uniform and scattered using 3-D FEM. Finally, the measured leak rate for the connection using helium gas was compared with the estimated results. The estimated results are in fairly good agreement with the measured values. It is found that the sealing performance of the connections tightened with the uniform bolt methods is better than that with scattered bolt preloads.

    Pipe flange connections with gaskets have been widely used in mechanical structures such as nuclear plants, petroleum refining plants and chemical plants and so on. Those connections are usually exposed to elevated temperature with internal pressure. Thus some investigations on the mechanical behavior of pipe flange connections with gaskets under thermal condition such as the sealing performance, the contact stress at the interfaces and a variation in the axial bolt force, have been performed. However, it is important to investigate the sealing performance of pipe connections under long term thermal exposure for using them safely. In this study, the effects of cyclic thermal condition on the sealing performance and mechanical behavior in pipe flange connection will be discussed based on the experimental leakage tests of pipe flange connections with gasket and FEM analyses.

    The pipe flange connections have been widely used in mechanical structures and these are mainly used under internal pressure and elevated temperature. Some investigations have been performed on mechanical behaviors such as the contact gasket stress distribution of pipe flange connection under internal pressure. However, the effects of elevated temperature on the sealing performance and mechanical behavior in the pipe flange connection have not been analyzed exactly. To design a pipe flange connection, it is necessary to know the effect of elevated temperature and the detailed flange strength for the hub and the contact gasket stress distributions in the connection. In this paper, the stress analysis of a pipe flange connection under elevated temperature and internal pressure is carried out taking into account a non-linearity and hysteresis of the gasket using the axi-symmetric theory of elasticity. The contact gasket stress distributions at the interfaces, the hub stress, in the pipe flange connection under elevated temperature and internal pressure are analyzed. Using the obtained contact gasket stress distributions, the amount of gasket leakage (He gas) is estimated. Leakage tests of the pipe flange connections were also conducted and the temperature of pipe flange connection was measured using thermoelectric couples. As a result, the difference of temperature between inner and outer is about 10%. The contact gasket stress was increased as the heated temperature was increased.

    Bolted pipe flange connections have been widely used in mechanical structures such as oil, chemical plants and so on. Sometimes leakage accidents occur from the connections. In assembling the pipe flange connections, the bolt preloads are scattered and then the connections are subjected to external bending moment due to earthquake as well as internal pressure. In the present paper, the changes in the axial bolt forces are measured in assembling. The bolts are tightened with torque wrench. Using the history of the bolt force changes, the gasket stress distributions on the connection with gaskets are analyzed using FEM. Then the gasket stress distributions on the connections under external bending moment and internal pressure are analyzed. Using the gasket stress distributions, the amount of leakage of the connections is estimated while the basic gasket characteristics have been measured according to JIS B 2251. The amount of leakage of the connection was measured for the various gasket stresses. The estimated results are in a fairly good agreement with the measured results. It is found that the effect of the scatter of bolt preload is substantial on the sealing performance of the connections. Discussion is made on the sealing characteristics of the connections. The change of axial bolt force obtained from experimental result and FEM result are fairly good agreement. Copyright © 2012 by ASME.

    The effects of nut thinning due to corrosion on the strength characteristic and the sealing performance in 3B bolted flange joints under internal pressure are examined from both FEM calculations and experiments. The following results are obtained. When bolts and nuts in a bolted flange joint are tightened with 50% of yield stress, no yield region at the engaged screw thread occurs, however, when they are tightened with 90% of the yield stress, a small scale yield region occurs at the roots of the engaged three screw threads from the bearing surface of the nut. While verifying this phenomenon using FEM, it was newly discovered that when the height of the nut was reduced to 1/3 (equivalent to approximately two threads) of the original dimensions according to the standards, the sealing performance could no longer be assured.

    The effects of the nominal diameter of pipe flange connections with non-asbestos spiral wound gaskets(SWG) under internal pressure on the mechanical characteristics such as the contact gasket stress distribution which governs the sealing performance, the load factor and the hub stress of the connections were evaluated. The stresses in the connections with the nominal diameters from 3" to 24" under internal pressure are analyzed using the elasto-plastic(EP) FEM analysis taking account the hysteresis and non-linearity of deformation behavior of the non-asbestos SWG. As a result, it is found that the variations in the contact gasket stress distributions are substantial due to the flange rotation in the connections with the larger nominal diameter. Leakage tests were conducted to measure the axial bolt forces (the load factor) and the hub stress. The results obtained from the EP-FEM analyses are fairly consistent with the experimental results concerning the variation in the axial bolt forces (the load factor) and the hub stress. Using the obtained contact gasket stress distributions and the fundamental relationship between the amount of leakage and the contact gasket stress, the amount of the leakage of the connections is estimated. It is observed that the sealing performance of the connections with larger nominal diameter is worse than that of the connection with smaller nominal diameter because of the flange rotation. The estimated results are in a fairly good agreement with the measured results. The difference in the hub stress between the EP-FEM and ASME code is demonstrated and the differences in the load factor and the sealing performance of the connections are shown between the asbestos and non-asbestos gaskets.

    Since scatter in axial bolt force exists in assembling pipe flange connections, it is important to evaluate the effect of scatter in axial bolt force on the sealing performance of pipe flange connection. The FE and experimental analyses were done to evaluate the effect of scatter in axial bolt force on the sealing performance of pipe flange connections with 3 '' (NPS 3 '') and 20 '' (NPS 20 '') nominal diameters.The axial bolt force was measured with strain gauges mounted on the shank of each bolt. The two kinds of torque controlled assembly procedures, ASME PCC-1 procedure and JIS 2251 procedure, were evaluated as an assembling procedure and compared the scatter in axial bolt force with that of the uniform axial bolt force condition. The results revealed that the significant difference was not observed between ASME PCC-1 and JIS 2251 procedures. The scatter in axial bolt force were not changed at elevated temperature, however, the axial bolt force increased when increasing the temperature. Therefore, the tightness of the flanged connection is improved with increasing the temperature up to 200 degrees C.The assembly efficiency was evaluated with the experimental results of 20 '' nominal diameter leakage tests and FE analyses. In addition to the scatter in the assembly axial bolt force, the flange rotation affected the axial bolt force when internally pressurized. As a result, the tightness parameter, Tp, was slightly lower than that evaluated with the assembly efficiency, eta = 0.85, defined in ASME PCC-1 procedure. The results are discussed and a modified assembly efficiency is proposed.

    In designing bolted flange connections under heat conduction conditions and internal pressure, the characteristics such as the contact gasket stress are important factors from reliable design standpoint. They must be examined analytically and experimentally. In this paper, in order to examine the above characteristics, thermal stress of bolted flange connections subjected to internal pressure and heat conduction conditions is analyzed using the theory of elasticity and FEM calculations. The effects of gasket properties and nominal diameter of flanges on the above characteristics are examined numerically. In the experiments, the amount of helium gas leakage in the connection was measured. Using the obtained gasket stress at elevated temperature, a method for estimating the amount of gas leakage is proposed. The analytical results of the above characteristics are compared with the experimental results, with reasonable agreements. The results reveal that the sealing performance increases due to the gasket properties as the temperature increases in this study.

    Stress distributions in CFRP adhesive laminated plates subjected to static and impact out-of-plane loadings are analyzed using a three-dimensional finite-element method (FEM). For establishing an optimum design method of the laminated plates, the effects of some factors are examined. As the results, it is found that the maximum value of the von Mises equivalent stress sigma eqv occurs at the edge of the CFRP's interfaces. The maximum value of interface shear stress tau i at CFRP interface decreases as the reinforced Young's modulus and the thickness increases. However, the maximum value of sigma eqv at the adhesive layer decreases as the reinforced Young's modulus and the thickness decreases. In addition, the maximum value of tau i at the CFRP's interface of lower reinforced laminates under impact loadings shows opposite characteristics to those under static loadings. For verification of the FEM calculations, experiments were carried out to measure the strains at the interfaces and the laminates plates strengths. Concerning strain and strength prediction based on von Mises equivalent stress, fairly good agreements were found between the numerical and the experimental results. The FEM results of impacted strain are in fairly good consistent with the measured results. Discussion is made on the effects of some factors on interface stress distributions.

    The authors have been evaluating the effects of the material properties of spiral wound gaskets (SWG) and the sealing performance of the pipe flange connections at elevated temperature with numerical and experimental analysis. The contact gasket stress increased by the mismatch of the thermal expansion between the gasket and flange/bolt as increasing the temperature and the sealing performance of the pipe flange connection was improved. The authors have also evaluated the effect of scatter in axial bolt force and revealed the assembly efficiency is not as high as expected in case of large nominal diameter pipe flange connection.Following the previous studies, the sealing performance of pipe flange connection and the assembly efficiency with SWG at elevated temperature were further evaluated with the experimental leakage test and 3-D FE analysis in this study. In order to make a precise evaluation, the experimentally obtained material properties of SWG were used in the analysis. The uniform axial bolt force tests and the scattered axial bolt force test were done to compare the sealing performance and the assembly efficiency evaluated by the ratio of the tightness parameter of each test at elevated temperature. Although the leak rate improved as increasing the temperature, the assembly efficiency decreased. The leakage based assembly efficiency was proposed according to the experimental results and numerical analyses.

    Although a lot of pipe flange connections are exposed to elevated temperature during long-term plant operation, a sealing performance of the pipe flange connections at elevated temperature is not well understood because of the experimental difficulty and the analytical problems which result from the lack of the materials properties of gaskets at elevated temperature. The authors have been evaluating the effects of the material properties of spiral wound gaskets (SWG) and the sealing performance of the pipe flange connections at elevated temperature with numerical and experimental analysis. The gasket stress induced by the mismatch of the thermal expansion between the gasket and flange/bolt increased as increasing the temperature in the case that the thermal expansion coefficient of the gasket was larger than that of bolt/flange material and the sealing performance of the pipe flange connection was improved. However, the thermal expansion coefficient declines at temperatures higher than 210 degrees C. In addition, the binder compositions of SWG vaporize and the mechanical properties slightly change at high temperature such as higher than 200 degrees C. Therefore, the sealing performance of pipe flange connection with SWG might decline more than 200 degrees C.The sealing performance and long-term durability of pipe flange connection with SWG at elevated temperature were evaluated in this study. The long term leakage test with heat cycle revealed that the sealing performance of pipe flange connection didn't show any degradation for 21 days. The compression tests for the new, the thermal aged and the used gaskets were done to investigate the effect of material characteristics on the long term sealing performance. In addition to the leakage test and the compression tests, the thermal characteristics of SWG were evaluated by the Thermogravimetry/Differential Thermal Analyzer (TG/DTA) measurement. The measurement showed the weight loss of SWG more than 130 degrees C. According to those experimental results and FE analysis, the effect of temperature on the sealing performance was discussed.

    Since an external bending moment affects the sealing performance of pipe flange connection, it is important to investigate this effect. This paper analyzed the contact gasket stress distribution of pipe flange connections and evaluates the effect of external bending moment on the sealing performance from the viewpoint of changes in contact gasket stress. The study includes the FE analyses and the experimental leakage tests. The FE analyses suggested the large decrease of contact gasket stress at tension side and small increase at compression side. The difference in change in contact gasket stress was caused by the non-linear hysteresis characteristics of stress-displacement curve of gasket. The FE analyses also suggested that the loading order, internal pressure and external bending moment, also affected the sealing performance due to the non-linear deformation characteristic of the gasket. The sealing performance when the external bending moment applied prior to the internal pressure was degraded more than when the internal pressure was applied prior to the external bending moment. The experimental leakage tests using helium (He) gas were analyzed by the finite element method and discussed. This paper also evaluated the stress distribution in the pipe flange under external bending moment. The results suggested that the hub stress dominated the flange structure and the most important factor in designing the flange. Copyright © 2010 by ASME.

    It has been well known that a scatter in axial bolt forces in pipe flange connections tightened by the torque control method is substantial. In practice, pipe flange connections with the large nominal diameter tightened by the torque control method have been used in chemical industry, and so on. In our study, the characteristics of the connections with smaller nominal diameter (less than 8") have been shown. So, in an optimum design of pipe flange connections with gaskets, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the pipe flange connections with large nominal diameter under internal pressure and the contact gasket stress distributions due to the scatter in axial bolt forces in the connections tightened by the torque control method. In this paper, the experimental and FE analyses were done to evaluate the effect of scatter in axial bolt force on the gasket stress distribution and the sealing performance of pipe flange connections with 20" nominal diameter. Two types of torque controlled assembling procedures, that is, ASME PCC-1 and JIS B 2251 procedures, are evaluated as an assembling procedures and an effect of scatter in the axial bolt forces obtained from the above methods is examined. Then, the effect of scatter in the axial bolt forces on the sealing performance of the connection is evaluated. The contact stress distribution in the larger pipe flange connection with 20" nominal diameter under internal pressure is analyzed using FEM by taking into account a non-linearity and a hysteresis.     Bolted joints with gaskets such as flexible box-shaped flange joints have been used in mechanical structures. The joints are usually used under internal pressure as well as other loadings such as thermal, impact loadings and so on. In designing the bolted flexible box-shaped flange joint with gaskets, it is important to evaluate the scaling performance of the joints under internal pressure and thermal conduction conditions. In this paper, the contact gasket stress distributions and changes in bolt load in the bolted flexible box-shaped flange joint with joint sheet gaskets subjected to internal pressure and thermal conduction condition are analyzed using the finite element method (FEM). The leakage tests were conducted using an actual box-shaped flange connection with a joint sheet gasket. Using the contact gasket stress distributions under internal pressure at an elevated temperature (Helium gas) obtained from the FEM calculations and the amount of the gas leakage measured in the experiment, the sealing performances are evaluated experimentally and numerically. In addition, the effect of the thermal conduction condition on the scaling performance is examined. Furthermore, a method how to determine the bolt preload of the flexible box-shaped flange joint at an elevated temperature for a given tightness parameter is demonstrated. Discussion is made on the sealing performance.

    The leakage evaluation when gas is used is more severe than that when liquid is used in pipe flange connections. In a practical design, it is also necessary to examine the leakage in the connections under liquid internal pressure application. The contact gasket stress distribution in the connection with a spiral wound gasket subjected to internal pressure and bending moments were analyzed using elasto-plastic (EP) finite element method (FEM) taking account hysteresis and nonlinearity in the stress-strain curve of the gasket. The effects of initial clamping bolt force (bolt preload), the nominal pressure and the nominal diameter of pipe flange and the equivalent pressure when the leakage occurs on the contact gasket stress distributions were examined. The leakage tests for the connections under the bending moments and the internal pressure were also conducted by using liquid (water). By using the results of the leakage tests and the calculated contact gasket stress distributions, the sealing performance of the connections was evaluated. It was found that the sealing performance of the connection can be estimated when liquid (water) was used, that is, when the contact gasket stress becomes zero, the leakage occurs. In addition, a method for determining the bolt preload in the connections under the bending moments was proposed for the reliable design. Copyright © 2008 by ASME.

    Plain washers are used to increase the area of the bearing surfaces in bolted joints. It was investigated that even if the average contact stress between a washer and a clamped part was the same, a thinner washer showed larger plastic deformation at the bearing surfaces after the bolt tightening. It is thought that this is because the real contact area decreases due to the warp of the plain washer. In this paper, mean permanent sets w^^- at the bearing surfaces are calculated based on elasto-plastic FEM analyses for several bolt sizes of the hexagon head bolted joints with plain washers. The deflection parameter k_w is proposed to introduce as a equation for calculating the mean permanent set by hand easily, and it is shown that the proposed method is effective to determine appropriate thickness of a plain washer.

    Metal gaskets have been used in bolted flanged connections under higher pressure and higher temperature conditions. However, it is difficult to estimate the sealing performance of the metal contact interfaces in the connections. Thus, it is necessary to study on the sealing characteristics of the metal to metal contact gasket in the connections under higher internal pressure and higher temperature. In this study, firstly, the sealing behavior test taking into account load history is carried out in detail using metal flat gaskets according to JIS B2490. Secondly, to examine the effect of the gasket contact area and surface roughness of metal gasket on the sealing behavior of metal-metal contact, the sealing behavior test is carried out using metal flat gaskets which has several types of gasket width and surface roughness. Thirdly, the amount of leakage is measured for bolted flanged connections with metal flat gaskets. The relationship between the gasket contact stress and the leak rate is obtained. Furthermore, the contact gasket stress distributions in the connection are analyzed using FEM stress analysis. Using the obtained gasket stress distribution, the sealing performance is estimated taking into account the gasket contact area and surface roughness of the metal flat gasket. The estimated result is compared with the measured results. In the results, the effect of the yield stress and the plastic deformation of the gasket surface are found to be important on the sealing mechanism.

    The effect of the plain washer's thickness on the contact stress distributions and the plastic displacements (permanent set) at the bearing surfaces are analyzed using elasto-plastic FEM analyses in case of the initial bolt clamping state. It is found that the contact stress and the plastic deformation decrease as the thickness of washer increases. It is shown that the plastic displacements at the bearing surfaces in case of hexagon bolts with flanges are smaller than in case of hexagon head bolts. Also even if the average contact stress is the same at the bearing surface, the plastic displacements are smaller in case of smaller bolt holes of clamped parts.

    Bolted connections with gasket such as box-shaped flange connections have been widely used in mechanical structures, such as nuclear and chemical industry, and so on. They are usually used under internal pressure. The high sealing performance of flange connection is required to avoid the unexpected leakage accident. The two methods, which are Diagonal and Clock-wised, are used in the bolts tightening procedure for the pipe flange connection. The effects of the difference between Diagonal and Clock-wised method on the sealing performance of pipe flange connection have been examined. In this paper, the contact gasket stresses of these connections under internal pressure are analyzed using the finite element method (FEM) of each bolting procedure, taking into account a hysteresis in the stress-displacement curve of a gasket. And then, using the contact gasket stress distributions obtained from FE analysis and the relationship between gasket stress and leak rate obtained from a gasket sealing test, a method for estimating an amount of leakage is examined. The leakage tests were also conducted to measure an amount of gas leakage using an actual box-shape flange connection with the gasket. In addition, the effect of bolt spacing is examined on the sealing performances of box-shape flange connections under internal pressure. The effects of the above factors are discussed on the sealing performance in designing box-shape flange connections.

    Pipe flange connections have been widely used in mechanical structures such as power, chemical plants and so on. Sometimes leakage accidents occur from the connections. In assembling the pipe flange connections, the bolt preloads are scattered and then the connections are subjected to external bending moment due to earthquakes as well as internal pressure. In the present paper, the changes in the axial bolt forces are measured in assembling. The bolts are tightened with torque wrench. Using the history of the axial bolt force changes and FEM calculation the gasket stress distribution is estimated. The amount of leakage of the connection was measured. It is found that the effect of the scatter of bolt preload is substantial on the sealing performance of the connections. And it is found that the effect of the scatter of bolt preload and the effect of bending moment can be added. The changes in axial bolt forces obtained from experimental result are in a fairly good agreement with FEM result.

    Since an external bending moment affected the sealing performance of pipe flange connection, it was important to investigate this effect. This paper analyzed the contact gasket stress distribution of pipe flange connections and evaluated the effect of external bending moment on the sealing performance from the viewpoint of changes in contact gasket stress. The study included the FE analyses and the experimental leakage tests. The FE analyses revealed the large decrease of contact gasket stress at tension side and small increase at compression side. The difference in change in contact gasket stress was caused by the non-linear hysterics characteristics of stress-displacement curve of gasket. The FE analyses also revealed that the loading order, internal pressure and external bending moment, also affected the sealing performance due to the non-linear deformation characteristic of the gasket. The experimental leakage tests using helium (He) gas were analyzed by the finite element method and discussed. This paper also evaluated the stress distribution in the pipe flange under external bending moment. The results suggested that the hub stress dominated the flange structure and the most important factor in designing the flange.

    It has been well known that a scatter in axial bolt forces in pipe flange connections tightened by the torque control method is substantial. In practice, pipe flange connections with the larger nominal diameter tightened by the torque control method have been used in chemical industry, and so on. In some study, the characteristics of the connections with smaller nominal diameter (less than 8") have been examined. So, in an optimum design of pipe flange connections with gaskets, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the pipe flange connections with large nominal diameter under internal pressure and the contact gasket distributions due to the scatter in axial bolt forces in the connections tightened by the torque control method. In this paper, the experimental and FE analyses were done to evaluate the effect of scatter in axial bolt force on the gasket stress distribution and the sealing performance of pipe flange connections with 20" nominal diameter. Two types of torque controlled assembling procedures and an effect of scatter in the axial bolt forces obtained from the above methods is examined. Then, the effect of scatter in the axial bolt forces on the sealing performance of the connection is evaluated. The contact stress distribution in the larger pipe flange connection with 20" nominal diameter under internal pressure is analyzed using FEM by taking into account a non-linearity and a hysteresis. The measured scatter in the axial bolt forces is applied in the FEM calculations.

    The authors have been evaluating the effects of the material properties of spiral wound gaskets(SWG) and the sealing performance of the pipe flange connections at thermal changes with numerical and experimental analysis. In this experiment we used 3" pipe flange connections and tightened by torque wrench. And then, we heated and measured leak volume. On the other hand we evaluated with the experimental leakage test and 3-D FE analysis in this study. Considering the circumstances mentioned above, we inspected stress analysis under scatter on bolt preloads and thermal changes.

    本研究では,内圧を受ける20インチフランジ締結体のボルト初期締め付け力のばらつきの影響について調べた.ガスケットの応力-ひずみ曲線のヒステリシスおよび非線形性を考慮した有限要素解析法によりガスケット接触応力分布を算出し,実際に実験を行うことでトルク管理法におけるボルト初期締め付け力のばらつきとその影響による漏洩量を測定し,両者の結果を比較検討した.その結果,ボルト軸力管理法に比べてトルク管理法(ASME法,HPIS法)ではいずれもボルト軸力がばらつき,目標ボルト締め付け力に達しないことが示された.

    機械構造物の配管の締付け方法として一般的に広く用いられる方法としてトルク法がある.そのトルク法によるボルト締付けによって生じるボルト軸力のばらつきが温度変動及び内圧作用下でのガスケット付管フランジ締結体の漏洩に及ぼす影響を,三次元有限要素法を用いたガスケット接触面の応力解析,及び実際のガスケット付管フランジ締結体を用いた漏洩実験の両面より検討し,漏洩基準の締付け効率を検討した.

    各種プラントにおける完全密封:ゼロナノリークに関しては,ナノリークメカニズムの解明がネックとなり進んでいない.本研究ではゼロナノリークの可能性が十分にあるメタルシールガスケットを対象とし,精密冶具を作成しメタル表面の変形挙動を測定および測定結果を用いた数値解析を行い,ナノリークメカニズムを明らかにすると共に,メタルシールガスケットを用いたジョイント部からのリーク量の推定方法およびナノリークを考慮したジョイント部設計方法の確立を目指す.
    本年度は以下の結果が得らえた。
    (1)金属表面の変形挙動を測定できる精密治具を作成し,金属表面プロファイルが圧縮前後で十分に測定できることを確認した.異なる表面粗さを有する試験片を用い,金属表面プロファイルの変化挙動の差異について検討し,粗さの大きい試験片ほど最大変形量が大きくなることが明らかにした.
    (2)接触する金属同士の硬度差の影響について,次のことを明らかにした.試験片側のRpk(突出山部)は硬度差が増大するにつれてRpkの変化量が増大した.Rk(コア部)は変化量はRpkよりは全硬度差において少量であるが,Rpkと同様に硬度差が増加すれば変化量も増加した.また,Rvk(突出谷部)は粗さパラメータの中で最も全硬度差で変化量が小さく,硬度差の増加にしたがって変化量が増加しなかった
    (3)圧縮荷重を変化させ試験片側のRpk(突出山部),Rk(コア部),Rvk(突出谷部)の変化について検討した.圧縮荷重を大きくすことで,それぞれの変化量は大きくなるが,Rk,Rvkの変化量は小さいことが明らかとなり,完全接触には,特にRvkの大きさに注意する必要があることが示唆された.

    本研究では,木材を利用して様々な金属や合成条件を変えて酸化金属ナノ粒子を合成し,それらを潤滑油に分散して摩擦特性を調べた.酸化鉄ナノ粒子,酸化銅ナノ粒子を合成し,潤滑油に分散して摩擦特性を調べると,両者とも無添加に比べて摩擦特性が改善した.酸化銅ナノ粒子の場合,合成後にアモルファスカーボン除去のための大気中酸化においても,加熱時間が長くなるほど粒径が大きくなることが分かった.さらに室温での摩擦の場合,2 mass %以上の添加量で十分な低減効果を発揮した.これは添加量が十分であると初期に基板に酸化銅ナノ粒子による銅のトライボフィルムが形成されるためと思われる.

    繰り返し応力による疲労破壊を抑制するために,接触材料の高硬度化が行われているが十分でない.本研究では,酸化グラフェンを潤滑油に分散させて,疲労寿命を向上させることを目的とする.そのため,酸化グラフェンの潤滑油への分散方法の検討,転動試験機の作製,転動試験を行った.転動試験の結果,酸化グラフェンを分散させることによって疲労寿命の向上が達成された.ただ,疲労寿命を大幅に向上させると思われるトライボフィルムの形成は達成されなかった.今後は,トライボフィルムが向上されるような分散剤を見出し,さらなる疲労寿命の向上を目指す.
