This study intended to clarify the current status of ethical consumption behavior and relating factors. The authors conducted a web-based survey for the members of “Pal System Consumers' Cooperative Union,” which provided a wide variety of commodities and services designed to promote ethical consumption including environmentally friendly items, organic foods, and electricity from renewable sources. To identify the total image of ethical consumption behavior and priority issues for its promotion, Bayesian Net-work modeling, which proves effective in prediction and classification on various fields, was applied to develop the determinant models of ethical consumption behavior. The authors also quantified the expected effects of predictors based on the sensitivity analyses of the structure models. Regarding “Purchase behavior of organic products," it was suggested that “conscious-ness of label for Organic foods/GMO at point of purchase” would have the largest impact and improve the involvement level by 20%.

The effects of the climate crisis disproportionately affect people living in densely populated urban areas,
presenting a major challenge for the 21st century. Urban administrators face a significant challenge
in implementing sustainable development goals into practice, especially within the constraints of the current
infrastructure. This paper evaluates how school zones – characterised by a significant amount of biologically
active areas – are integrated into the city’s infrastructure to support the multiple uses of natural resources that
improve urban living standards. A comprehensive analysis of current legislation, a review of the scientific
literature, and a case study of selected schoolyards and school campuses, and renovations of these types of sites
over the past decade focus on the evolution of school grounds and the formulation of green spaces and green-
-blue infrastructure. The paper’s conclusions outline the possibilities embedded in the evolution of schoolyards
in the pursuit of sustainable development functioning and a list of the potentialities of urban ecological initiatives.

This article examines the impact of Japan’s mottainai concept on civil engineering practices, focusing on the waste of materials, financial resources, and harmonisation of structures with the environment. The authors highlight the global challenges of environmental and social imbalances in the context of global warming. The Japanese concept of mottainai is presented as the key to shaping the civil engineering approach. The inefficient use of raw materials was analysed in terms of material waste. A transition to a closed-loop economy is recommended, emphasising the need for resource efficiency. In the context of financial resources, the need for efficient budget allocation and project management is emphasised. The section on harmonising structures with the environment focuses on aesthetics, environment, sustainable mobility, and an integrated approach to urban planning. Civil engineering projects should combine functional efficiency with respect to the environment, and the mottainai concept can be a tool for achieving sustainability in civil engineering. Innovative solutions, such as intelligent energy management systems, are recommended to improve construction efficiency.

The implementation of circular economy (CE) strategies has facilitated a comprehensive approach to waste management (WM) in university campuses. Composting food waste (FW) and biomass can mitigate negative environmental impacts and be part of a closed-loop economy. The compost can be used as a fertilizer, thereby closing the waste cycle. Implementing nudging strategies to promote effective waste segregation can help the campus move closer towards achieving neutrality and sustainability goals. The research was conducted at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences - WULS (SGGW). The University Campus is located in the south of Warsaw (Poland) and covers an area of 70 ha with 49 buildings. The SGGW campus generates selectively collected (glass, paper, plastic and metals, and biowaste) and mixed waste. Data were collected through a year-long report from the university administration. For the survey, waste data from 2019 to 2022 were obtained. The CE efficiency indicators of CE were measured. The indicators of CE efficiency for compost (Ic,ce) and plastic (Ipb,ce) showed Ic,ce at 21.05 %, which means that 1/5th of the waste generated on the campus can be introduced into the CE paradigm through composting, and the resulting value Ipb,ce of 19.96 % indicates that this amount can be reintroduced into the CE paradigm through its reuse. The results of the seasonality study showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the generated biowaste between the separated periods of the year, and the Pearson correlation coefficient (r = 0.068) provided additional confirmation. The weak correlation between the amount of biowaste generated and the average for each year (r = 0.110) also indicates a stable biowaste generation system that does not require a reduction or increase in the efficiency of waste processing, such as composting. By implementing CE strategies, university campuses can improve WM practices and achieve sustainability goals.

In October 2022, the authors developed a web app for online broadcasting at food corners. To motivate the purchase of discount foods, the authors installed live cameras at food corners of supermarkets and a department store, and delivered the still images, names, prices, and discount rates of discount foods via the web app. As the second round, the authors conducted the food loss reduction campaign named “Nokorifuku Campaign Part 2” including approaches for awareness raising and behavior modification on purchase of discount foods and Temaedori behavior by posting enlightenment materials published by MAFF and humorous poems by university students at food corners. Two phase web-surveys for users of web-app before and after the campaign were implemented, and actual usage of web-app, recognition rates of enlightenment materials, and behavior modification effect of food loss reduction were analyzed in this study.
