    This study aimed to characterize the relationship between the ratio of the length of the second and fourth fingers (2D:4D value) and the speed of sound of the calcaneus by quantitative ultrasound (QUS-SOS) in undergraduate female students. We recruited 138 young women with a mean age of 19.6 ± 1.4 years. The participants' calcaneus QUS-SOS was measured using an ultrasound bone densitometer. We also measured the participants' weight, height, and grip strength. A self-reported questionnaire was used to obtain information on participants' secondary sexual characteristics, and exercise habits. The present study showed that the 2D:4D value of both hands was significantly correlated with the calcaneus QUS-SOS. The 2D:4D value of the left hand was also positively associated with the calcaneus QUS-SOS results in several respects. These findings suggest that the 2D:4D value may be useful for the screening of risk for a low bone quality in undergraduate female students.

    BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not circuit training at home affects the calcaneus quantitative ultrasound status as well as other indices of body composition among undergraduate female students. METHODS: Forty-one adolescents were recruited (18.5 ± 0.6 years old). The stiffness index of the calcaneus, broadband ultrasound attenuation of the calcaneus, speed of sound of the calcaneus, and body frame index. This was a three-month intervention study, so the measurements were conducted at baseline, 2 months later, and 3 months later while the subjects underwent circuit training at home. The subjects were divided into two groups: namely, the exercising group and non-exercising group. RESULTS: In the exercising group, broadband ultrasound attenuation of the calcaneus was higher 2 months later (p = 0.033) as well as 3 months later (p = 0.036), and the speed of sound of the calcaneus was higher 3 months later (p = 0.018). In addition, the muscle mass was strongly positively correlated with the calcaneus QUS-SOS (p = 0.004), while the body fat percentage was a strongly negatively correlated with the calcaneus QUS-BUA (p = 0.043). In the non-exercising group, the stiffness index of the calcaneus was higher 2 months later (p = 0.002) as well as 3 months later (p = 0.002). Furthermore, the body percentage was strongly positively correlated with the calcaneus QUS-SI (p = 0.009). CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the calcaneus quantitative ultrasound status and muscle mass while losing fat mass may be improved by means of a simple exercise regimen within a short period among undergraduate female students.

    A大学学士課程における保健師選択選抜学生16名を対象に、選抜教育の現状と課題について質問紙調査とフォーカスグループインタビュー(FGI)を依頼した。対象者のうち、3名は調査当日に都合がつかず、最終的に13名に調査を実施することができた。選抜学生の成績は同学年平均よりやや高く、応募理由は「多くの資格が欲しい」76.9%との回答が多かった。講義等の感想は、「看護の学習と同時進行で大変」が76.9%、「学習進行や学習量が多くて興味が薄れていった」53.8%などが見られた。保健師として就職した学生はいなかった。FGIから「保健師を目指す準備の必要性」「満足感」「不満足感」「保健師の特徴への気づき」「就職への躊躇」「看護師への逃避」の6つのラベルが抽出された。「保健師専門職への興味関心の喚起」「保健師として就職する関門の突破」「保健師の質担保に向けた教育プログラムの構築」の3点が今後の課題と考えられた。

    骨盤外計測法は安全で簡便であることから,医療技術の進歩した現在においてもその有用性が知られているが,標準値は40年以上変わっていない。そこで本研究は骨盤外計測器を用いて,現代の成熟期早期女性の各骨盤径線の変化,遺伝的因子や減量,運動の経験と骨盤の形状との関係,日常的な不快症状との関係を明らかにすることを目的とした。結果,転子間径に有意な発達がみられるが,その他の径線に大きな変化はなかった.また,転子間径/外結合線比は拡大したが,総合的には骨盤のバランスに著しい変化は認められなかった.骨盤の発育に出生時体格や遺伝的因子の影響は少なく,現在の体脂肪率が有意に関連している.日常生活上の不快症状のうち下肢のむくみや肩こり,尿失禁,腹部膨満感がある女性は,これらの症状のない女性よりも骨盤が大きく,特に横方向が大きかった.骨盤痛や易疲労感のある者は外結合線のみが大きいことが明らかとなった.(著者抄録)

    This study aimed to elucidate the relationship of prenatal and/or postnatal factors, including acquired factors, with the calcaneus stiffness index as measured by quantitative ultrasound (QUS-SI) in adolescents. We recruited 1,143 adolescents with a mean age of 14.8 ± 1.8 years (501 boys and 642 girls). The subjects' calcaneus QUS-SI was measured using an ultrasound bone densitometer. We also measured the subjects' height, weight, and grip strength. Data on prenatal and postnatal factors were obtained from maternal and child health handbooks. A self-reporting questionnaire was used to obtain information on subjects' secondary sexual characteristics and lifestyle factors. We found that maternal weight gain during pregnancy was independently associated with calcaneus QUS-SI in girls, and that grip strength was also significantly associated with calcaneus QUS-SI in both sexes. The present findings suggest that excessive restriction of maternal weight gain would have a negative effect on the calcaneus QUS-SI of girls, and that exercise and strength-building activities are likely to result in a higher calcaneus QUS-SI in both sexes of adolescents.

    これまで,体重,BMI,体脂肪率の高さは,思春期女子や若年女性の骨量の高さに影響することが明らかにされている一方で,肥満が骨量の低さに影響をおよぼすのではないかという見解もある.これら相反する見解があることから,今回,中学生,高校生,大学生の233名を対象に,BMIと体脂肪率の骨量に与える影響について検討した.骨量測定には超音波骨評価装置を使用し,TI値をその指標とした.なお,対象については,BMIと体脂肪率それぞれによって3つの体格グループ(痩せ,標準,肥満)に分け,検討した.分析にはStat View-J5.0を用い,対応のない分散分析およびt検定を行った.中学生・高校生では,BMIおよび体脂肪率により分けた標準グループと肥満グループ間の骨量には,有意差があった.また,大学生では,BMIにより分けた痩せグループと標準グループ間の骨量に有意差が見られた.次に,BMIおよび体脂肪率により分けた3グループそれぞれについて,多重比較により骨発達について検討した.痩せグループに属する対象の最大骨密度を獲得する時期は,大学もしくはそれ以降であることが示唆された.その一方で,標準グループおよび肥満グループに属する対象のそれは,高校時代であることが明らかとなった.加えて,標準グループと肥満グループでは,大学での骨量減少に差があることが示唆され,肥満グループのその幅は大きかった.本調査では,骨量とBMIおよび骨量と体脂肪率との関係性について検討したが,BMI,体脂肪率ともに標準群の対象者が高い骨量を維持できることが示唆された.(著者抄録)

    離島であるA町健康増進計画策定に向け実施された質問紙調査結果を基に、高齢者男女を前期高齢者、後期高齢者に分類し、それぞれの時期で、外出に影響をおよぼす要因を探った。分析対象は、前期高齢者127名(男性68名、女性59名)、後期高齢者140名(男性72名、女性68名)であった。分析にはStat View-J5.0統計ソフトを使用し、目的変数を外出の有無、説明変数を健康状態(移動方法、体力への自信、生活状況)、社会交流(外出に誘ってくれる友人の有無、外出に誘ってくれる家族の有無、子どもとの交流の有無)とした多重ロジスティック回帰分析を行った。男性の外出に影響する要因は、前期高齢者では、有意な変数が検出されなかった。後期高齢者では、体力への自信(p<0.05)、外出に誘ってくれる友人の有無(p<0.01)が有意であった。一方、女性の外出に影響する要因は、前期高齢者では、移動方法(p<0.01)が有意であった。後期高齢者では、有意な変数が検出されなかった。本分析により外出を促進する要因が、男女によって、また、年齢によって異なっていることが明らかにできた。この結果は、今後、介護予防の観点から、特に離島という隔絶された地域で、閉じこもりになりそうな高齢者を発見し支援していく上で、一指標になると考える。(著者抄録)

    The purpose of this study was to determine if the simple exercise affects the calcaneus quantitative ultrasound status and the other indices of body composition among undergraduate female students.
    Forty-one adolescents were recruited.This was a three-month intervention study, so the measurements were conducted at baseline, two months later, and three months later while the subjects underwent circuit training at home. The subjects were divided into two groups: namely, the exercising group and non-exercising group.In the exercising group,the calcaneus quantitative ultrasound status and muscle mass were highe at three months later.In the non-exercising group, the calcaneus quantitative ultrasound status was also higher at three months later. The body percentage was also higher. These findings suggest that the calcaneus quantitative ultrasound status and muscle mass while losing fat mass may be improved by a simple exercise in younger generation.

    The aim of the study was to elucidate the effect of prenatal and/or postnatal status on calcaneus bone density in adolescents.
    We recruited 1,143 adolescents (501 males and 642 females) with mean age of 14.8±1.8 years in a junior high school and a high school, and recorded their anthropometric data. Bone density was measured using an ultrasound bone densitometer (A-1000 Express, Lunar). Prenatal and postnatal statuses were estimated using their maternity health record books.
    High neonatal weight gain at 1 month was significantly associated with high calcaneus bone density in adolescents from a logistic regression analysis including above prenatal and postnatal factors (p=0.042).
